Would-Be Armed Supermarket Robbers Bail Before Garwood Officers Arrived: Cops Garwood police are looking for two men who attempted to rob a Kings Supermarket on the evening of Wednesday, Dec. 13. Two Black men, between 40 to 50 years old, wearing surgical masks and dark clothing entered the store after hours, police said. When confronted by an employee, one of the suspects pulled out a firearm, police said. The suspects fled the scene before police arrived and did not take anything, police said. Bull Who Wandered Onto NJ Train Tracks Safe At New Home Ricardo, the bull who could literally stop train service, is enjoying his new digs. Trains were delayed for up to 45 minutes after he appeared on the train tracks near Newark Penn Station. Man Struck, Killed By Train Was First Of Two NJ Transit Fatalities Wednesday Night A man was fatally struck by a train in South Orange on Wednesday, Dec. 13, in one of two fatal transit strikes that evening, NJ Transit said. At 7:37 p.m., a train not in passenger service, fatally injured the pedestrian west of the South Orange station, NJ Transit said. The train was being moved eastbound on the Morris and Essex Line and no customers were on board and no crew were injured, NJ Transit said. Local Celeb Garbage Collector In NJ Out Of Work With Brain Mass, Campaign Says The G Man is down, but not out. The Keansburg community is coming together to support Charles "Buddy" Reeves, a.k.a. the G Man who has been collecting garbage in the town for 44 years. He recently suffered a medical emergency while working, according to a GoFundMe set up to support Reeves while he recovers from a brain mass. Jackpot! Teaneck Lotto Player Splits $1M Prize It was a million dollar Wednesday for two lottery players in North Jersey. Two tickets, one sold in Bergen County and the other sold in Hudson County, matched all five numbers in the Jersey Cash 5 jackpot drawing on Wednesday, Dec. 13, splitting the $1.05 million jackpot and earning each player $525,330. Newly Minted Millionaire: Powerball Player Hits Jackpot In Passaic County A Passaic County lottery player won $1 million in the Powerball drawing on Wednesday, Dec. 13. A bull wandering onto the tracks in Newark caused trains to be delayed up to 45 minutes between Newark Penn Station and Penn Station New York, NJ Transit said. Rail tickets and passes are being crossed honored by PATH, Hoboken, Newark Penn and 33rd Street New York, NJ Transit said. It is unknown how the bull got onto the train tracks.

Mahwah's Sheraton Hotel Closes After Nearly 40 Years The last guests have checked out. The Sheraton Hotel in Mahwah, which opened in 1986, officially shut its doors on Thursday, Dec.14, to be replaced by two warehouses at the 1 International Blvd. site. The 22-story hotel was the tallest structure in the township. "It's been a big part of our town for 37 years," Mayor Jim Wysocki said. "I was here when it was built. It was part of our family." Township Waiting On Weather To Reopen Skating Rink At Morris County Park A Morris County park is getting its own winter wonderland. Washington Township Mayor Matt Murrello announced on Facebook last week that the town will be offering ice skating on the infield of Palmer Park baseball field. Murello tells Daily Voice: "We can open it once Mother Nature freezes the ice and all our parks are open sunrise to sunset" The township asks residents only skate and not play hockey, and to stay off the surface until it is ready to use.
