An (almost) lifelong Westchester resident, Sam has reported on all facets of Westchester since he graduated from Ryerson University with a degree in print journalism, including stints at North County News and The Examiner. A film columnist for WAG Magazine, Sam's moviegoing expertise has been profiled in the New York Times and he was a featured guest on VH1's Big Morning Buzz Live.

Equilibrium Sells Brewing In Middletown For the past year, Equilibrium Brewery has been proud to call Middletown home. Equilibrium began selling brewing at its headquarters at 22 Henry Street and is run by Ricardo Petroni and his partner Peter Oates, who are both environmental engineers. Petroni has a Master's degree from MIT. Petroni has been brewing his own beer for more than 20 years and decided to turn it into business. "I wanted to do this for a living," Petroni said. Schumer Calls On Feds To Approve Permit For Orange County Legoland GOSHEN, N.Y. -- U.S. Senator Chuck Schumer (D-NY) is urging the Army Corps of Engineers to approve a wetlands permit that would allow a Legoland to be built in Goshen.The Legoland New York theme park and hotel, built by Merlin Entertainment, will create 500 permanent full-time jobs, 500 seasonal jobs, 300 part-time jobs and 800 construction jobs, Schumer said. The project would generate $87 million in payments and property taxes to Goshen the Goshen Central Scool District and Orange County over the next 30 years, Schumer said. IBM, Pepsi Campuses In Somers Pitched For Amazon HQ2 The Town of Somers is making its pitch to reel in Amazon. Somers is hoping Amazon will be attracted to its former IBM and PepsiCo campuses and is one of 238 proposals being vetted by the company for its new $5 billion headquarters that is expected to create 50,000 jobs. It will not be easy for Somers, which is competing against places like Chicago. But the town has more than 1,540,000 square feet to attract Amazon with the possibility of building four buildings on the site. Rep. Faso Voting No On Tax Reform Bill When it comes to tax reform, Rep. John Faso (R-Kinderhook) is once again a no vote. Faso, who represents the 19th district which includes a portion of East Dutchess, announced Monday he intends to vote no on the Republican-led tax reform bill, saying it would not help New York families. Hyde Park Police Helping Needy Families Over Holiday Season HYDE PARK, N.Y. -- Hyde Park Police are doing what they can to help those in need over the holidays. The police kicked off the holiday season by joining other first responders at Target in Poughkeepsie for their Heroes and Helpers event, where local first responders help kids shop for things they need for the holidays. Last week, the police announced they have sponsored some local families for Christmas and will be working to distribute presents soon.

Baker Collyer Fund Hoping To Help Ossining Families OSSINING, N.Y. -- For 102 years, the Baker- Collyer Cheer Fund in Ossining has been assisting those who need it the most. The fund, which was started in 1915, helps about 360 families each year. The fund goes solely to purchase food for holiday baskets delivered to families in need. The administration efforts are handled by volunteers and the baskets are packed and delivered by members of the Ossining Volunteer Fire Department and other community members. Incoming Putnam Sheriff Names Five New Captains PUTNAM COUNTY, N.Y. -- Sheriff-Elect Robert Langley has announced his new captains for the Putnam County Sheriff's Office, including the first female captain in county history. Legislator, Port Jervis Mayor Spar Over Raise PORT JERVIS, N.Y. -- Port Jervis Mayor Kelly Decker is telling Orange County Legislator Tom Faggione to butt out after Faggione criticized Dwyer's attempts to double his salary. Decker is seeking to double his salary from $20,000 to $40,000 in next year's budget, increasing the tax levy by .4 percent. Faggione said this is the last thing Port Jervis needs to do. Former Faso Congressional Opponent Steals Car, Police Say Steven Brisee, a Democrat who was considering challenging Rep. John Faso (R-Kinderhook) next year, was arrested and charged with burglary in the third degree, a Class D felony last week. Brisee, a 27-year-old Walden resident, stole a 2011 Nissan Altima from the impound yard of P and P Auto in New Windsor, according to state police.
