An (almost) lifelong Westchester resident, Sam has reported on all facets of Westchester since he graduated from Ryerson University with a degree in print journalism, including stints at North County News and The Examiner. A film columnist for WAG Magazine, Sam's moviegoing expertise has been profiled in the New York Times and he was a featured guest on VH1's Big Morning Buzz Live.

Dumpster On Tractor Trailer Catches Fire On I-87 ARDSLEY, N.Y. -- A dumpster on the back of a tractor trailer caught on fire on I-87 in Ardsley between exits 8 and 9 late Friday morning. The dumpster caught fire at 11:54 a.m. and firefighters were able to extinguish it at 12:47 p.m. according to David Howard of the New York State Police. While the fire was being battled, the right and center lanes were blocked. There were no injuries. The lanes have since been reopened.

Brewster Artist Paints Up Rye RYE, N.Y. -- For several months, Poppy’s Luncheonette window in Rye has been hand-painted with holiday themes by Brewster resident Doug DePierro. Currently, you can see the stars and stripes painted for Memorial Day and the upcoming July 4 holiday. A life-size Easter Bunny appeared back in April, holding a pink and purple Easter Egg. DePierro is no stranger to Rye. His first mural can be seen on the second floor in Ruby’s wine room. It looks like a Paris landscape and took 10 days to complete. Sandy Project Worker Suffers Lacerated Torso At Philipse Manor Station SLEEPY HOLLOW, N.Y. -- A subcontractor for the Sandy Restoration Project lacerated his torso after an accident with a saw at the Philipse Manor Train Station Thursday afternoon, according to Nancy Gamerman of the MTA. The unidentified man was cutting a cable through when the saw kicked back and caused a 3-inch laceration to his upper torso, Gamerman said. The man is currently getting stitches and then he should be immediately released from Westchester Medical Center, Gamerman said. The incident occurred in the siding south of Philips Manor between tracks 10 and 12.

Pedestrian Hit By Car In Pleasantville PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. -- A pedestrian was struck by a car on Madison Avenue in Pleasantville Thursday. The incident was reported at 1:38 p.m. at the intersection of Garragan Avenue, just south of Our Lady of Pompeii Roman Catholic Church. Police said the pedestrian's injuries were not life threatening.

Marist Graduate Excited For Road Ahead POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. -- Lily Hickey can officially call herself a college graduate. Hickey recently graduated from Marist College in Poughkeepsie with a degree in communications. "The beauty and friendliness of the campus grabbed me immediately," Hickey said. Three Workers Injured After Roof Collapses At Montrose VA MONTROSE, N.Y. -- A roof collapse at the Montrose VA sent three construction workers plummeting 15-20 feet Tuesday. The construction workers fell through the roof in Building 26, where a pool and gym are under construction, according to Barbara LaColla, public affairs specialist for the Montrose VA .The site was secured and only contractors were allowed entry, LaColla said.
