Rockland School Board Candidates Announced Four Rockland school districts will have contested school board elections this year. The school board elections will take place on May 16, the same day budgets are voted on. In East Ramapo, Mark Berkowitz and Alexandra Manigo are running for a three-year term. Ossining Names Bedford Educator As New Fifth-Grade Principal OSSINING, N.Y. -- Michelle Grier is the Roosevelt School's next principal. The Ossining Board of Education said Friday it plans to appoint Grier, an educator in Bedford, as early as next month to be the new principal. Grier, Bedford's math department coordinator for grades 6-12, will replace Principal Stephen Hancock July 1. Two Propositions On The Ballot In Ossining School Elections OSSINING, N.Y. -- The Ossining School District is looking to create a capital reserve fund and renovate the Roosevelt School cafeteria. The two propositions will be on the ballot when voters go to the polls on May 16 to vote on the budget and Board of Education. Rockland Tops In Lower Hudson In Single-Family Home Sales ROCKLAND COUNTY, N.Y. -- It's a good time to be selling a home in Rockland.Overall home sales in Rockland were up 29.3 percent in the first quarter compared to last year, according to the Hudson Gateway Multiple Listing Service. In the first quarter, 444 singe-family homes were sold in Rockland, an increase of 23.7 from last year, according to HGMLS. Flags Fly At Half Staff For Rudy Russo, Former Dutchess County Legislator A longtime public servant for Dutchess County is being honored. Rudy Russo, who served in the Dutchess County Legislature, died in Tucson on April 6. County Executive Marc Molinaro announced flags on all Dutchess County Government facility buildings would be lowered to half-staff Russo graduated from Pawling High School, later enlisting in the US Navy. He was admitted to the New York State Bar in 1957 and practiced law in Dutchess for 60 years.
