Fairfield University Unveils Renovated RecPlex FAIRFIELD, Conn. -- A grand opening ceremony celebrating the completion of Fairfield University’s renovated Leslie C. Quick, Jr. Recreation Complex — the RecPlex— was held at the entrance of the new facility on Friday.The event introduced the new 40,000 square foot, three-level, state-of-the art facility and kicked off with the Friends of Athletics' inaugural Dunk Tank Challenge. Norwalk Warns Residents To Prepare For Hermine NORWALK, Connn. -- The National Weather Service has issued a Tropical Storm Watch for the Norwalk and Fairfield County area as Hermine makes its way up the East Coast. This may be a very slow moving storm that could produce flooding, high winds and power outages throughout the Northeast, according to forecasters. Residents are strongly encouraged to monitor local weather updates throughout the weekend and into next week, since changes in the forecast would affect flooding, rainfall amounts and winds. Fairfield's Sacred Heart College of Nursing Gains Federal Grant FAIRFIELD, Conn. — Sacred Heart University’s College of Nursing in Fairfield has received a $372,873 grant to increase the number of culturally competent family nurse-practitioner students committed to working as primary care providers in medically underserved communities. The Advanced Education Nursing Traineeship grant was bestowed by the Health Resources and Services Administration, an agency of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. Mark Twain Library's 56th Book Fair In Redding Collecting Food For Pantry REDDING, Conn. -- The Mark Twain Library's annual Labor Day Book Fair will be collecting food pantry items. Taking place from Sept. 2 to 5, the 56th annual book fair will take place at the Redding Community Center, 37 Lonetown Road. It will include 65,000 books for sale. Norwalk Community College Offering Real Estate Broker Course NORWALK, Conn. -- Extended Studies at Norwalk Community College will offer a Broker Pre-Licensing: Principles and Practices course this fall for those interested in becoming real estate brokers. The four-session course begins Oct. 5 and meets Wednesday and Friday from 9 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. The course covers business policy and procedures, marketing and advertising, land use regulations and other areas relevant to real estate brokers.
