Kent Library Displays Violet Matlin Art KENT, N.Y. -- A memorial exhibit of drawings and paintings by Violet Matlin will be on display in the Kent Public Library Book Cellar/Program Room through early July. Violet Matlin was born on March 24, 1924. She attended McDowell’s School of Design in New York City and it was there she began to refine her artistry. For many years, Matlin designed greeting cards for Norcross Cards. Armonk Fencer Becomes World Champion ARMONK, N.Y. -- Sylvie Binder, a 16-year-old Armonk resident, traveled to Bourges, France for 10 days to represent the United States at the World Cadet-Junior Fencing Championships on April 1.Binder, currently the highest ranked women’s cadet under 17 foil fencer in the country, is a two-time Cadet World Team member and earned Team USA’s first women’s foil gold medal at Worlds since 2010.
