Andrus On Hudson Presents Screening Of 'The General'
HASTINGS-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. -- Andrus on Hudson will screen Buster Keaton's "The General" on Feb. 6 with improvised piano accompaniment by David Arner as well as an introduction and post screening discussion led by Dionne Bennett, Ph.D. The screening will take place at 7 p.m. Popcorn and tickets will be available at the door. Amazon is planning to open hundreds of bookstores around the United States, according to The Wall Street Journal.This would be a follow up to the ecommerce giant opening their first storefront last November in Seattle, the lone shop currently in operation, where customers use an in-store scanner or the Amazon app to see how much items cost, reports The Wall Street Journal. Carmel, Mahopac, Mahopac Falls Fire Departments Swear in Members
CARMEL, N.Y. -- Members of the Town of Carmel fire departments gathered at the Mahopac Falls Fire Headquarters on Tuesday, Feb. 2 for a ceremony to swear in a new group of firefighters Chief Jeff Boyle welcomed the group before asking Judge James Reitz, a 3rd generation legacy and Life Member of the Mahopac Falls Volunteer Fire Department, to make it official. Carmel Police Chief Mike Cazzari oversaw that the paperwork was in accordance with the law.

MOUNT KISCO, N.Y. -- Northwell Health, whose network includes Northern Westchester Hospital, will showcase its new advertising campaign during Super Bowl L, with a 30-second spot airing in the second quarter and two 30-second ads running during the pregame coverage. Sammy Ready For Adoption At Rockland County's Hi Tor Shelter
PONOMA, N.Y. -- Sammy, a one-year-old domestic short hair cat, is the Hi Tor pet of the week, offered by Hi Tor Animal Care Center, Rockland County's Animal Shelter in Ponoma. Sammy is a friendly, chatty cat and would do well with children and other cats. He has not been around many dogs since being at the shelter, but could possibly be okay. Yorktown Schools Named 'District Of Character'
YORKTOWN, N.Y. --The Yorktown Central School District has been selected as a New York State School District of Character for 2016. This prestigious award recognizes the district’s ongoing emphasis on and commitment to character education. Yorktown CSD is the only district in New York State to receive this designation since the initiation of the award in early 2000, said the reviewing agency. STAMFORD, Conn. -- The Shadows of the Southern Connecticut Skating team (SCSS) brought home the silver medal from the Eastern Synchronized Skating Sectional Championships in Richmond, Virginia this past weekend. This qualifying event hosted over 160 teams from the east coast for three days of competition. The Shadows won 2nd place of 28 open juvenile level teams.
