Mount Vernon Man Drove Drunk New Year's Eve On NYC Bridge, Police Say A man from Westchester County is charged with driving drunk on a bridge in New York City on New Year's Eve, police said. On Saturday, Dec. 31, around 12:40 a.m., police pulled over a 2020 Dodge Durango that had violated traffic laws in the area of the Henry Hudson Parkway Bridge in the Bronx, state police announced on Tuesday, Jan. 3. The driver, identified as Mount Vernon resident George Greenaway, age 47, was then arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated. Greenaway was then taken to Manhattan Central Booking, police said.

Flames At Purchase College Blamed On Trash Compactor, Firefighters Say A fire at a college in Westchester County was the result of a trash compactor going up in flames, firefighters said. On Tuesday, Jan. 3 around 2:40 p.m., firefighters were sent to SUNY Purchase College to respond to a reported transformer fire, according to the Purchase Fire Department. Once there, firefighters saw that the trash compactor at the north loading dock was on fire, and quickly began working to put it out. The last day of business for Momiji Japanese Restaurant, located in Harrison at 261 Halstead Ave., was on Saturday, Dec. 31. Former Cortlandt Town Supervisor Dies After Illness A man from Northern Westchester who was known for his dedication to serving his community has died after battling an illness. Former Cortlandt Town Supervisor Charles DiGiacomo died on Thursday, Dec. 29 at the age of 82, according to his obituary. Originally a native of Ossining before moving to Cortlandt Manor, DiGiacomo graduated from Ossining High School in 1958 as class president before earning his bachelor's degree from Pace University. Video: Police Help Hawk Fly Free After It Crashes Into Greenburgh Home A hawk that accidentally crashed through the window of a Westchester County home was saved thanks to the help of police officers who knew just what to do. On Monday, Jan. 2, the bird of prey flew into a home in Greenburgh, leading the homeowner to call police for help, Greenburgh police said. After arriving at the house, officers were able to throw a blanket over the distressed bird and carry it back outside. Person Seriously Injured After Car Crashes Into Stone Wall In Somers One person suffered serious injuries after a car hit a stone wall in Northern Westchester. The crash happened on Monday, January 2 around 4 p.m., when firefighters in Somers responded to an accident on Butlerville Road and found the vehicle heavily damaged after hitting the wall. Two people were injured in the crash after being ejected from the car. One of the occupants suffered serious but non-life-threatening injuries, firefighters said. Both were taken to a hospital in the area.

Rolled-Over Box Truck Delays Traffic On I-287 In Harrison A box truck that tipped over briefly caused lane closures on a Westchester County highway, police said. The accident happened on Tuesday, Jan. 3 around 1:30 p.m. on Interstate 287 Westbound in Harrison between exits 7 and 10, according to state police. After the box truck rolled over, the right and center lanes of the highway were blocked. A busy main road in Northern Westchester was closed to traffic for several hours after a tractor-trailer tipped over and spilled a load of rocks, police said.
