Route 9A Shuts Down After Car Slams Into Telephone Pole In Greenburgh A portion of a busy main road in Westchester County is shut down after a car knocked down a telephone pole and caused extensive damage. The accident happened on Tuesday morning, Jan. 3 in Greenburgh on Saw Mill River Road (Route 9A) in the area between Jackson Avenue and Lawrence Street, according to an announcement by Greenburgh Police from around 8 a.m. The portion of Route 9A between these two streets is now closed to traffic for "extensive restoration work," police said. Yorktown Police Officer Dies After Sudden Illness, Leaves Behind 2 Kids, Wife A police officer from Northern Westchester has died after fighting a sudden illness for two days, leaving behind his wife and two young children. Lieutenant Kenneth Sgroi of the Yorktown Police Department died on Monday, Jan. 2 around 8 p.m. after becoming ill "very suddenly" and battling "valiantly and hard" for around 48 hours, the police department announced. Stolen Vehicle From Out Of State Found In Armonk: Police A stolen vehicle from another state was found parked on a Northern Westchester street thanks to a call from an observant resident. On Monday, Dec. 26, around 6 a.m., an Armonk resident told police that a BMW with New Jersey registration was illegally parked on Banksville Road, North Castle Police said. After authorities looked the vehicle up, they realized that it had been stolen from Elizabeth, New Jersey, and confirmed this with Elizabeth's police department. Minivan Lands On Top Of Parked Vehicle After Veering Off I-84 In CT: Police A woman discovered an unusual way to park her minivan after she veered off a highway in Connecticut and landed on top of a parked car, police said. The incident happened in New Haven County on Thursday, Dec. 29 around 11:40 a.m., when a 2011 Honda Odyssey EXL was traveling east on I-84 in Middlebury when it veered into the right lane and lost control due to over-steering right before Exit 17, state police said. Construction To Back Up Traffic For Weeks In Rye Business District A construction project is expected to cause delays for over two months in a busy business district in Westchester County. Beginning on Monday, Jan. 3, a gas main replacement project will begin in the Rye Central Business District, which will include Purchase Street between Purdy and Locust Avenues, according to the City of Rye Police Department. Uninsured Drunk Driver Crossed Double Yellow Line On Route 134 In Yorktown: Police A man is facing charges after driving drunk on a busy Northern Westchester road with no insurance and suspended registration, police said. Cortlandt Manor Man Killed After Car Hits Rock Wall, Police Say A man is dead after losing control of his vehicle and hitting a rock wall in the Hudson Valley, police said. The accident happened in Putnam County on Friday, Dec. 30 around 3 p.m. when the car traveling east on Route 301 in Putnam Valley about a mile west of the Taconic State Parkway suddenly lost control, according to the Putnam County Sheriff's Office.
