An (almost) lifelong Westchester resident, Sam has reported on all facets of Westchester since he graduated from Ryerson University with a degree in print journalism, including stints at North County News and The Examiner. A film columnist for WAG Magazine, Sam's moviegoing expertise has been profiled in the New York Times and he was a featured guest on VH1's Big Morning Buzz Live.

Saddle Brook Rallies Around Girl Injured, Orphaned In Earthquake Rayen Bekri, a 13-year-old girl, was trapped in the rubble for six days following an earthquake in her native Turkey in February. Now living with family in Bergen County, the community has come together to help her. While trapped under six floors of a collapsed building, Bekri held onto her brother, though he did not survive. Bekri's mother also died in the earthquake, which killed nearly 60,000 people in Turkey and Syria. Bekri was finally discovered, though her leg had to be amputated. Fugitive Wanted In Multiple States Nabbed In Guttenberg: Police Elias Marte, a fugitive wanted in three states, was arrested in Guttenberg following a traffic stop on Wednesday, July 26, police said. On Wednesday evening, police conducted a traffic stop where they found the driver, who identified himself as Abimael Soto-Alicea, a native of Puerto Rico, in possession of a defaced prescription pill bottle, a clear baggie suspected to contain cocaine and a fraudulent Virginia temporary tag, officers said. Elizabeth Man Busted With Heroin, Cocaine: Linden PD A 29-year old Elizabeth man was arrested and charged with possessing and distributing heroin, cocaine and oxycodone on Thursday, July 27, Linden police said. Sean Kelly was arrested after the Linden Police Narcotics Bureau executed a search warrant on the 1400 block of Union Street, police. Kelly was charged with distribution of heroin and cocaine in the second degree and possession and distribution of heroin, oxycodone and cocaine in the third degree. Dump Truck Overturns On NJ Turnpike A dump truck overturned on the New Jersey Turnpike Thursday afternoon, July 27, according to 511nj.org. The truck overturned on the inner and outer roadways on the Turnpike northbound near Interchange13A, the exit near Newark Liberty International Airport and Elizabeth at about 1:30 p.m., 511nj.org said. Family Of Boy Fighting Lymphoma Sees Community Support Riley Gray is enduring the fight of his life at just seven years old. The New Providence resident was battling stomach pains and after a trip to the emergency room, it was discovered he had a mass on his colon, necessitating emergency surgery. The Jack Russell terrier, who was taken from a home in Bayonne on Monday, July 24, was found safe and returned to his family on Wednesday, July 26 at 772 Avenue C, Bayonne Police Capt.
