An (almost) lifelong Westchester resident, Sam has reported on all facets of Westchester since he graduated from Ryerson University with a degree in print journalism, including stints at North County News and The Examiner. A film columnist for WAG Magazine, Sam's moviegoing expertise has been profiled in the New York Times and he was a featured guest on VH1's Big Morning Buzz Live.

Bergen County Man's Assault On Palestinian-American Wasn't Bias Crime: Cops A 31-year-old Bergen County man was arrested for assaulting a Palestinian American who said he was called a terrorist in Jersey City on Monday, Nov. 27, authorities said. At 1:30 a.m., Mo Hamzeh said on his Instagram that he was waiting on an Uber outside Grove Station when a man asked him where he was from. Hamzeh said Baltimore, and then when the man persisted, Hamzeh said he told him he was Palestinian. Jersey City 9-1-1 Dispatcher Used Job To Access Personal Info: Prosecutor A 58-year-old Jersey City 9-1-1 dispatcher was arrested on Tuesday, Nov. 28 and charged with unlawfully obtaining records and personal information, authorities said. In July, Rose Davis used her position as a telecommunications supervisor to access the information that she was not authorized to keep, Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez said. The arrest followed an investigation by the Hudson County Prosecutor's Office Special Investigations Unit. Davis was charged with computer criminal activity and was released pending her first court appearance next month, Suarez said.

Winners! North Jersey Lotto Players Strike It Rich It was a lucky Tuesday, Nov. 28 for two Mega Millions players in North Jersey. Two tickets, one sold in Union County and another sold in Bergen County, matched four of the five winning numbers plus the gold Mega Ball, winning $10,000. The ticket sold in Bergen County was bought with a Megaplier, increasing the prize to $30,000. Only 12 lottery players in the country took home $10,000. The tickets were sold at A & S Discount Liquors in Linden and Rocklin's in Teaneck. The winning numbers were 27, 37, 42, 59, 61 and the gold Mega Ball was 11.

Blaze Forces Evacuation At Swan Motel: Linden PD Firefighters responded to a fire at The Swan Motel on Tuesday, Nov. 28, Linden police said. The fire was on the second floor inside a motel room and started at 10:15 p.m., police said. Occupants were safely evacuated from their room and no injuries were reported, police said. The fire was contained to the motel room and the fire was declared under control after 30 minutes, police said. The cause of the fire remains under investigation, police said. Tommy DeVito Brings Crowds To Wayne's Primo Hoagies Cold temps and gusty winds didn't stop fans from waiting to meet Tommy DeVito. The NY Giants rookie QB stopped by Wayne's Primo Hoagies on Tuesday, Nov. 28 to sign autographs. A massive cement truck decked out in Christmas lights briefly stole the show. Videos uploaded to Instagram show dozens of people waiting outside to meet the Cedar Grove native and Big Blue starter, who graduated from Don Bosco. Intoxicated Jersey City Man Roaming Bayonne Apartment Building Had Cocaine, Knife: Cops A 47-year old Jersey City man was arrested on Monday, Nov. 27 after police in Bayonne said he had drugs on him, along with a "shank type" blade. At 12:32 p.m., police spotted Rubin Jackson roaming the halls of an apartment building at Avenue C and 32nd Street, officers said. Jackson could not explain why he was inside the building and officers believed he was under the influence of an intoxicant, police said. A search of Jackson yielded cocaine, narcotics paraphernalia, and the blade, police said. Police said Jackson "could not provide an acceptable justification for possessing" the blade. …

Double Fatal: 2 Dead In West Orange Crash (Developing) Two people were killed in a car crash in West Orange on Tuesday, Nov. 28, authorities said. The crash occurred at Northfield Avenue between Old North Avenue and Gregory Avenue, West Orange police said. The Essex County Prosecutor's Office said they are leading the investigation into the fatal crash. According to CBS New York, the driver may have suffered a medical emergency prior to the collision. Murder: Charges Upgraded After Man Beaten During Union City Robbery Dies, Police Say Charges have been upgraded for a 23-year-old man after the man who he struck over the head during a robbery last week died, authorities in Hudson County said. At 3 a.m. on Thursday, Nov. 16, Union City police found Jorge Mocetzuma Espinoza unresponsive, and rushed him to Jersey City Medical Center with upper body injuries, Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez said. Hours later, Isaiah Grey was charged with attempted murder, robbery and aggravated assault, Suarez said. Espinoza died six days later, Suarez said. Winner: NJ Wawa Sells $50K Powerball Ticket It was a lucrative Monday, Nov. 27 for a Powerball player in Essex County. The ticket sold at a Wawa in Fairfield matched four of the five numbers plus the Powerball, winning $50,000. There were only nine $50,000 winners throughout the country. The winning numbers were 2, 21, 38, 61, 66 and the Powerball was 12.

Man Fatally Struck By Vehicle In Caldwell: Prosecutors A 68-year-old man was fatally struck by a vehicle in Caldwell on Sunday, Nov. 26, authorities said. At 6:33 p.m., Caldwell police responded to a pedestrian struck near 395 Bloomfield Ave., Acting Essex County Prosecutor Theodore N. Stephens, II and Caldwell Police Chief James H. Bongiorno said. Gregory Katz was transported to St. Joseph's University Medical Center in Paterson where he was pronounced dead, Stephens and Bongiorno said.
