Jon graduated from Cornell University and received his master's degree in journalism from Northwestern University. Across a 35-year career, he's worked as a reporter for daily newspapers in Chicago, New York, Ohio & Washington, D.C and as managing editor for weekly newspapers in Rye, White Plains and Harrison.

South Jersey Driver, 37, Killed In Collision With Dump Truck A 37-year-old man from Camden County was killed when he struck a dump truck in Gloucester County, NJ Advance Media reported. Thurman H. Smith Jr., of Chesilhurst, was heading west on Route 322/Glassboro Road when he struck the vehicle around midnight Thursday, Oct. 6, the outlet said citing Monroe Township police. Smith was pronounced dead at the scene near Fries Mill Road. The 34-year-old dump truck driver was not injured. Accused South Jersey Killer Remains At Large In Shooting Father Of 6: Prosecutor U.S. Marshals are searching for a fugitive in the killing of an innocent bystander, authorities said. Herbert R. Lee Jr., 36, of Bridgeton, was shot to death July 30 while trying to break up a fight at Maplewood Gardens apartments. He was survived by six children, a fiancée and a sister. Police identified the shooter as Ryan A. Askins, 29, of Bridgeton, who remains at large. Another armed man involved in the fight was charged with a weapons offense. Child Struck, Driver Arrested In South Jersey Hit-Run Crash A 51-year-old driver from Glouchester County was charged in a hit-and-run crash involving an 11-year-old pedestrian. The victim was taken to Cooper Hospital and is in stable condition.  The boy was walking along the 500 block of Oak Avenue in Franklin Township at about 7:15 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 9 when he was hit by a passing vehicle, according to Franklin Township Police. Paul Mensch, of Malaga, was charged with assault by auto and released on a summons pending a court appearance. Police said they recovered evidence belonging to the vehicle at the scene and obtained surveillance video.
