Homeowner, Dog Escape As Chappaqua Home Destroyed By Fast-Moving Fire CHAPPAQUA, N.Y. -- A homeowner and her dog managed to escape Sunday as a fire destroyed their two-and-a-half story home at 16 Bessel Lane, just north of Wampus Lake Reservoir. More than 50 firefighters spent several hours battling the blaze, which broke out shortly after 3 p.m., said Chappaqua Fire Chief Greg Bologna. Bologna said the fire rapidly spread from the first floor to the attic and roof which had wood shingles. The roof then collapsed onto the second floor, destroying the entire home. Honda Collides With BMW Head On In Route 202 Chain-Reaction, Four-Car Crash ROCKLAND COUNTY, N.Y. -- A chain-reaction head-on crash involving four vehicles resulted in several injuries Sunday afternoon in Montebello. It occurred around 1:50 p.m., on Haverstraw Road (Route 202) west of Mayer Drive, said Ramapo police. According to police, the crash occurred when a Honda CRV drove over the double yellow lines and struck a BMW-X1. The vehicle behind the BMW, a Jeep Grand Cherokee, then hit the rear of the BMW, sending it spinning off the roadway and head-on into a large tree. The Honda CRV then sideswiped a gold Ford Fusion sedan after it struck the BMW, police said. …

Man Nabbed For DWI After Traffic Stop In Nyack, Police Say ORANGETOWN, N.Y. -- A West Nyack man was charged with DWI after being stopped Friday for a traffic violation, according to Orangetown Police.Thomas McKee, 21, was charged after being stopped on Sickles Avenue in Nyack for a traffic violation around 3:30 a.m., police said. When officers approached his vehicle they noticed he had slurred speech and bloodshot eyes, police said. He agreed to a number of field sobriety tests, which he failed. He also failed a breathalyzer test, they added. McKee was released and is due to appear in court on June 20.
