Family Of Student At Prestigious Westchester School Who Died By Suicide Considers Legal Action The family of an Italian teen who was a student at a prestigious New York academy has issued a statement following his death by suicide after allegedly being placed in isolation. The incident took place in Westchester County around 9:30 a.m., Thursday, Feb. 17 at the EF Academy in Thornwood, according to Chief Paul J. Oliva, of the Mount Pleasant Police. When police responded to a call of a suicidal person, Claudio Mandia, age 17, of Salerno, Italy, was found dead in a room at EF Academy on the eve of his 18th birthday, Oliva said. One Seriously Injured In Fairfield County Car Crash Into Building, Police Say One person received serious but non-life-threatening injuries after a car crashed into a Fairfield County business. The crash took place around 2:30 a.m., Saturday, Feb. 27 on Post Road (Route 1) in Fairfield. The Fairfield Fire Department arrived on the scene and found that a car had slammed into the front of an eyewear business trapping the driver, the department said. Firefighters worked to extricate the driver of the car who sustained what is believed to be serious but non-life-threatening injuries, the driver said. Car Crashes Into Business In Hampshire County A store was able to remain open after a car hit the front of the building in Western Massachusetts. The incident took place in Hampshire County when a car jumped the curb and struck the Family Dollar store in Easthampton on Union Street by the front door. No one was injured and the business was able to stay open, said the Easthampton Fire Department.

Hudson Valley School District Announces Sudden Death Of Teacher A popular longtime Hudson Valley teacher passed away suddenly over the weekend. Rockland County resident Cathy Malgieri, of New City, died suddenly Sunday, Feb. 27, according to Jeff Sobel, acting interim superintendent of school for the Clarkstown Central School District. Malgieri worked at Bardonia and Woodglen elementary schools, and Link IB World School since 1993 as a member of the district's Special Education Department, Sobel said in a statement. Fire Breaks Out At Home Attached To Strip Mall In Fairfield County A house attached to the rear of a strip mall was heavily damaged during an early-morning fire in Fairfield County. The blaze broke out at 2 a.m., Monday, Feb. 28 at 172 Main St., in Norwalk. Responding firefighters encountered heavy smoke pushing from the attic of the two-story home located in the rear of the strip mall on the corner of Main and Center Avenue, said Deputy Chief Edward Prescott of the Norwalk Fire Department. Suspected Fentanyl Overdoses Lead To Deaths Of Two Prisoners In Connecticut Two Connecticut inmates in the same cell in jail died in a case of suspected fentanyl overdoses, prison officials said. The Connecticut Department of Correction said the two inmates died at the New Haven Correctional Center on Thursday, Feb. 24. CT Man Admits Defrauding His Grandparents Of $679K A Connecticut man has pleaded guilty in federal court to stealing some $679,000 from his grandparents. Leonard Boyle, US Attorney for the District of Connecticut, announced that Hartford County resident Douglas Senerth, age 32 of South Windsor, plead guilty to the fraud on Wednesday, Feb. 23.
