Pedestrian Hit On Saw Mill Parkway Undergoes Surgery, Police Say A pedestrian who was hit on the Saw Mill River Parkway in Westchester has undergone surgery. The unidentified man, who had no ID, was hit around 2 p.m., Wednesday, June 23, after crossing the three southbound lanes of the parkway in Yonkers before being struck while crossing the northbound lanes, said Kieran O'Leary, spokesman for the Westchester County Police. Hudson Valley Man Killed In Single-Vehicle Crash In Connecticut A New York man was killed after losing control of his vehicle and slamming into a metal guardrail in Connecticut. The victim, Putnam County resident Gabriel Ramos, age 34, of Carmel, was traveling northbound on I-91in North Haven around 10 p.m., Wednesday, June 23, when the crash happened, said the Connecticut State Police. According to police, lost control of his 2005 Kawasaki motorcycle and hit a metal beam guardrail, and was thrown from the bike. Alert Issued For Missing Long Island 15-Year-Old Police are asking the public for help locating a Long Island teen who has been missing for a day. The teen, identified as Kevin Martinez, age 15, of Hempstead, was reported missing to Nassau County Police around 6:30 p.m., Wednesday, June 23. According to detectives, Martinez was last seen leaving Fulton Avenue in Hempstead. Man Who Lost Control Of Sailboat Rescued By Bay Constables On Long Island A man who was unable to operate his 16-foot sailboat was saved by Bay Constables when he overturned the vessel. The rescue took place on Friday, June 18, when Southold Town Police received a report of a man overboard off of Kenney's Beach, in Southold.  Police said the boat's owner Peter Stanton, age 61, of Woodbridge, Virginia, was apparently unable to properly operate his 16' sailboat when he caused it to overturn.  Stanton was then unable to swim fast enough to catch up to it causing himself to become separated from the boat, police said. Suffolk County Police said the incident took place around 1 p.m. on Tuesday, June 22, when officers responded to Kate and Hale, located at 227 Main Street in Port Jefferson. Former Police Chief In Area Dies At Age 48 A former Hudson Valley police chief has died just five years after his retirement. Former Tuxedo Police Chief Patrick Welsh died at the age of 48, officials said. A cause of death was not given. Welsh joined the department as a part-time dispatcher in February 1994, became a town officer in 1997, was promoted to sergeant in 2001 and to chief in 2009. He retired in 2016 from injuries sustained during the line of duty, city officials said at the time of his retirement. Welsh leaves behind a wife and four children. Services have not been announced.
