Briarcliff Fire Chief Resigns, Village Begins Investigation BRIARCLIFF MANOR, N.Y. -- Michael Garcia has resigned as chief of the Briarcliff Manor Fire Department after the village said it would be investigating inconsistencies in the fire department's books. Village Manor Philip Zegarelli confirmed Garcia's resignation and said a forensic accountant will be starting tomorrow to study financial records. An investigation began last week. Man Tries To Rob Yorktown Jewelers Through Adjacent Barber Shop, Police Say A man was arrested in Yorktown early Tuesday morning after he attempted to break into Yorktown Jewelers at by using an adjacent barbershop at the Roma Building on 2008 Crompond Road. Paul Shkreli, 44, of Yonkers was arrested and charged with two counts of burglary in the third degree, Class D felonies. Police received an anonymous call about a possible burglary at 3:44 a.m. and found the front door to Yorktown Barber Shop, adjacent to Yorktown Jewelers to be unsecured. Mahopac Students Raise $3,000 For Hurricane Relief MAHOPAC, N.Y. -- The students at Fulmar Road Elementary School in Mahopac are lending a helping hand.Teachers Andrea Jones and Christine Czuy organized Fulmar’s Charity Walk/Run for Hurricane Relief, which raised more than $3,000 for the Red Cross’s hurricane-relief efforts. More than 240 of “Fulmar’s Finest”, including students, administrators, and staff joined together on Sept. 19 to rally for the cause. Westchester Legislators One Vote Shy Of Immigrant Protection Act Override WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. -- The Westchester Board of Legislators fell one vote short of passing the Immigrant Protection Act. The legislators failed to override County Executive Rob Astorino's veto, voting 11-6 in favor. Twelve votes were needed to override Astorino's veto. All nine Democrats voted to override the veto, along with Republicans James Maisano and David Gelfarb. Netflix Show Filming At Ossining Diner OSSINING, N.Y. -- Ossining is once again getting its moment in the spotlight. A Netflix show is filming at DD's Diner on North Highland Avenue on Tuesday, though the Village of Ossining was unable to confirm the title of the project. Mahopac Woman Possesses Controlled Substances, Yorktown Police Say YORKTOWN, N.Y. -- An unwanted person complaint led to a Mahopac woman arrested and charged with three counts of criminal possession of a controlled substance in the seventh degree. Danielle Hartmann, 22, was charged with the three misdemeanors after police responded to the complaint at Hickory Street.
