Astorino Issues Executive Order On Immigration WESTCHESTER COUNTY, N.Y. -- County Executive Rob Astorino said he is committed to making sure Westchester does not become a "sanctuary county." Astorino issued an executive order Wednesday that says county law enforcement will continue to cooperate with federal authorities in investigating and apprehending immigrants involved in criminal activity but will be prohibited from asking about their legal status unless required by law. Free Flu Shots Offered For Westchester Residents WESTCHESTER COUNTY, N.Y. -- The county is doing what it can to ensure its residents don't get the flu this fall. The Westchester County Health Department will be giving free flu shots to college students and residents at two locations next month in Valhalla and White Plains. Any Westchester college student can get a flu shot on Tuesday, Oct. 3, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Westchester Community College’s Student Center in the Student Events Room at 75 Grasslands Road in Valhalla. Elmsford Men Turn Out For 'Dads Take Your Child To School Day' ELMSFORD, N.Y. -- There were long lines outside Elmsford schools on Tuesday, as the district celebrated "Dads Take Your Child To School Day."Fathers and their children were waiting in line to sign a certificate that said: "Thank You For Taking Me To School Today." Schneiderman Takes Trump To Task In Rye Brook Visit RYE BROOK, N.Y. -- New York Attorney General Eric Schneiderman is no fan of President Donald Trump. Schneiderman gave a speech at the Business Council of Westchester's Political Leadership Series last week in Rye Brook. He said he viewed it as his job to protect New Yorkers and to stand up to the federal government, according to The Examiner. Paint The Village: Tivoli Hosting Annual Street Painting Day TIVOLI, N.Y. -- Artists of all ages will be coming out to Tivoli on Saturday as the town celebrates its 17th annual street painting day. The event, which runs from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Broadway in Tivoli, features artists painting on a square of pavement. About 250 artists participate each year. Woman Fails To Pay Fine For Leaving Dog In Hot Car, Yorktown Police Say WESTCHESTER COUNTY, N.Y. -- A Bedford woman who was inducted into the Westchester County Senior Hall of Fame was arrested in Yorktown Tuesday for failing to pay a fine after leaving her dog unattended in a car. Lynda O'Hanlon of Katonah, inducted in 2014, was arrested on the bench warrant, police said. In July, she was arrested after leaving a dog inside her hot car with the windows closed at the Triangle Shopping Center. O'Hanlon was turned over to Yorktown Police from New York State Police. She was released on $500 bail and is due back in court on Sept. 26.

Westchester Walk To End Alzheimer's Moves To SUNY Purchase PURCHASE, N.Y. -- The West Lawn of SUNY Purchase is the new home of Sunday's 2017 Westchester Walk To End Alzheimer's, run by the Alzheimer's Association. Registration for the walk begins at 9 a.m., with an opening ceremony beginning at 10 a.m. followed by the walk. Last year's walk was held at White Plains High School. Peekskill's Inn On The Hudson Sold The Inn on the Hudson in Northern Westchester has been sold, ending a run of 60 years. The Inn on the Hudson, a Main Street institution in Peekskill, had been run by five families for three generations before being sold to Barry Patel. Erratic Driving Report Leads To DWI Charge In Yorktown, Police Say YORKTOWN, N.Y. -- A 23-year-old man was arrested for driving while intoxicated in Yorktown Monday night. Danbury resident Ismael Vasquez-Garcia, 23, was arrested and charged with Driving While Intoxicated, a misdemeanor and Aggravated Driving While Intoxicated BAC. 18 percent or more, a misdemeanor after police said they responded to a report of a vehicle driving erratically on Crompond Road.
