Born in Newark and raised in Hudson County, Jerry DeMarco is a 38-year veteran of the news industry and a renowned breaking news reporter. He has covered local, county and state police, as well as the FBI, ATF and other federal agencies.

DeMarco joined Daily Voice in 2015 after six years running Cliffview Pilot, one of the nation's few independent breaking news sites. As an independent publisher, he helped establish Local Independent Online News, a national trade organization.

Prior to launching his own site, DeMarco served as a reporter for the Bergen Record, Stamford Advocate, Rockland Journal News, News Tribune, and Trenton Times.

DeMarco has won national recognition for his investigative work, including Clarion, Heywood Broun and Deadline Club awards. He's changed public policy and managed several major projects -- including one that helped put a corrupt public official in federal prison and another that forced a sitting New Jersey attorney general from office for her participation in a Bergen County traffic stop involving her boyfriend.

DeMarco regularly lectures at a graduate course in media relations at Fairleigh Dickinson University and previously was an adjunct professor at Lehman College in the Bronx.

He has a Bachelor's Degree in English from St. Peter's University in Jersey City.

Social Worker From Saddle Brook Charged With Sexually Assaulting Pre-Teen In Midland Park A licensed social worker from Saddle Brook was charged with sexually assaulting a pre-teen in Midland Park. Jonathan Barrios, 27, remained held in the Bergen County Jail on Monday following his arrest on sexual assault and child endangerment charges on Friday, July 14. Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella said Midland Park police notified members of his Special Victims Unit about the allegations and together they investigated. The prosecutor thanked borough police for their assistance.

Motorcyclist, 72, Killed In Overnight Route 46 Crash A 72-year-old motorcyclist died following an overnight crash off Route 46 in Woodland Park, authorities said. He'd been headed west when the motorcycle veered off the highway and hit a light pole in the parking lot of the Mattress Firm store near the Little Falls border shortly after 3:30 a.m. Sunday, July 16, Police Capt. Everyone OK In Overnight East Rutherford House Fire Fears of a possibly trapped resident proved unfounded during an overnight house fire in East Rutherford. First-floor residents were vacating the two-family home on Rose Street near Paterson Avenue as first responders arrived at 2:35 a.m., Police Capt. Jeff Yannacone said. Mom, Daughter OK After SUV Hits Deer On Route 4 A mother and her young daughter escaped serious injury when their SUV hit a deer on Route 4. The 2023 Mercedes-Benz GLB 250 hit the deer on the westbound highway in Englewood shortly before 6:30 p.m. Saturday, July 15. A good Samaritan stopped and stayed with the two occupants until police arrived. Both sustained apparently minor airbag injuries, he said.
