Born in Newark and raised in Hudson County, Jerry DeMarco is a 38-year veteran of the news industry and a renowned breaking news reporter. He has covered local, county and state police, as well as the FBI, ATF and other federal agencies.

DeMarco joined Daily Voice in 2015 after six years running Cliffview Pilot, one of the nation's few independent breaking news sites. As an independent publisher, he helped establish Local Independent Online News, a national trade organization.

Prior to launching his own site, DeMarco served as a reporter for the Bergen Record, Stamford Advocate, Rockland Journal News, News Tribune, and Trenton Times.

DeMarco has won national recognition for his investigative work, including Clarion, Heywood Broun and Deadline Club awards. He's changed public policy and managed several major projects -- including one that helped put a corrupt public official in federal prison and another that forced a sitting New Jersey attorney general from office for her participation in a Bergen County traffic stop involving her boyfriend.

DeMarco regularly lectures at a graduate course in media relations at Fairleigh Dickinson University and previously was an adjunct professor at Lehman College in the Bronx.

He has a Bachelor's Degree in English from St. Peter's University in Jersey City.

Rochelle Park Stop: Trio From Hackensack, Bergenfield Seized With Drugs, Loaded Gun, Police Say Two Bergenfield men and a driver from Hackensack were jailed after a Rochelle Park police officer stopped their sedan and found a loaded gun, ammo and prescription pills, authorities said. Lightning Strike Ignites Paramus House Fire A lightning strike ignited a fire in a Paramus home Friday morning. The blaze damaged the second floor of the two-story, wood-frame home on Bullard Avenue, off Forest Avenue, after it broke out at around 8:15 a.m. July 14. Firefighters had it doused in under a half hour. No injuries were reported. Accused Thief Wanted In Pickup Theft Snared By Wallington Detective A Wallington man who tried and failed to steal a pickup truck from an auto repair business grabbed another and roared off, said police who arrested him last week. Driver, 21, From North Bergen Ejected In Route 3 Rollover A 21-year-old motorist from North Bergen survived after being ejected from his subcompact on Route 3, authorities said. The four-door 2014 Chevrolet Spark hatchback ran off the westbound highway and flipped, ejecting him, shortly after 6:30 a.m. Thursday, July 13, East Rutherford Police Capt. Jeff Yannacone said. The driver was taken to Hackensack University Medical Center by a Metro Ambulance crew after complaining of back and hip pain, the captain said. Fort Lee Boy, 15, Charged With Shooting Elmwood Park Teen Capping an intense investigation, Elmwood Park detectives charged a 15-year-old Fort Lee boy with attempted murder for shooting another teen earlier this month.
