Born in Newark and raised in Hudson County, Jerry DeMarco is a 38-year veteran of the news industry and a renowned breaking news reporter. He has covered local, county and state police, as well as the FBI, ATF and other federal agencies.

DeMarco joined Daily Voice in 2015 after six years running Cliffview Pilot, one of the nation's few independent breaking news sites. As an independent publisher, he helped establish Local Independent Online News, a national trade organization.

Prior to launching his own site, DeMarco served as a reporter for the Bergen Record, Stamford Advocate, Rockland Journal News, News Tribune, and Trenton Times.

DeMarco has won national recognition for his investigative work, including Clarion, Heywood Broun and Deadline Club awards. He's changed public policy and managed several major projects -- including one that helped put a corrupt public official in federal prison and another that forced a sitting New Jersey attorney general from office for her participation in a Bergen County traffic stop involving her boyfriend.

DeMarco regularly lectures at a graduate course in media relations at Fairleigh Dickinson University and previously was an adjunct professor at Lehman College in the Bronx.

He has a Bachelor's Degree in English from St. Peter's University in Jersey City.

Shopper, 76, Tells Paramus PD He Was Driven At Gunpoint To Bank, Forced To Withdraw $10,000 Paramus police are trying to corroborate a claim by a 76-year-old man who told them that he was abducted by two robbers at gunpoint and forced to withdraw $10,000 from his bank Thursday afternoon. The Music & Arts store customer said the robbers took him in their car to his bank and then returned him to the Paramus Town Square on eastbound Route 4 after he pulled the cash from an ATM around noontime July 13, Paramus Police Chief Robert Guidetti said. Amazon Deliveryman Struck By 74-Year-Old Driver On Prime Day An Amazon deliveryman was struck by a car while crossing a residential street in Fair Lawn -- and on Prime Day, no less. A 74-year-old Paterson resident was driving the 2013 Honda Civic that struck the 27-year-old worker from Sussex on quiet Pomona Avenue shortly before 3:30 p.m. Wednesday, July 12, Police Sgt. Fire At Coach House Diner Doused An electrical fire was doused at the Coach House diner on Route 4 in Hackensack as responders handled a rapid-fire cluster of calls. A smoking outlet at the popular diner off Hackensack Avenue brought city firefighters around 11 a.m. Thursday, July 13, responders at the scene said. The scene was cleared about 90 minutes later. Out-Of-State Man Charged With Sexually Assaulting Cliffside Park Children A former New Jersey resident was brought back to Bergen County after authorities charged him with sexually assaulting two minors nearly a decade ago. Eduardo Camacho, 29, of Cleveland was ordered held in the Bergen County Jail pending court action. Shots Fired At Clifton Dunkin' Donuts No one was struck in a shooting Wednesday night at a Dunkin' Donuts in Clifton, responders said. A bullet came through the window of the shop at the corner of Van Houten Avenue and Wonham Street following what apparently was a drive-by shortly after 9 p.m. July 12. Route 17 Crash Downs Wires A single-vehicle rollover crash Wednesday night downed utility wires on Route 17 in Paramus. The northbound highway was closed for a little over a half-hour after a vehicle slammed into a utility pole near Midland Avenue around 10:30 p.m. July 12.
