Born in Newark and raised in Hudson County, Jerry DeMarco is a 38-year veteran of the news industry and a renowned breaking news reporter. He has covered local, county and state police, as well as the FBI, ATF and other federal agencies.

DeMarco joined Daily Voice in 2015 after six years running Cliffview Pilot, one of the nation's few independent breaking news sites. As an independent publisher, he helped establish Local Independent Online News, a national trade organization.

Prior to launching his own site, DeMarco served as a reporter for the Bergen Record, Stamford Advocate, Rockland Journal News, News Tribune, and Trenton Times.

DeMarco has won national recognition for his investigative work, including Clarion, Heywood Broun and Deadline Club awards. He's changed public policy and managed several major projects -- including one that helped put a corrupt public official in federal prison and another that forced a sitting New Jersey attorney general from office for her participation in a Bergen County traffic stop involving her boyfriend.

DeMarco regularly lectures at a graduate course in media relations at Fairleigh Dickinson University and previously was an adjunct professor at Lehman College in the Bronx.

He has a Bachelor's Degree in English from St. Peter's University in Jersey City.

Hiking Trio Rescued From Palisades Near NJ/NY Border A rappel team from above the Palisades teamed up with a marine officer below to rescue three out-of-state hikers who'd become trapped on a cliff above the Hudson River. The women left the marked trail Monday afternoon and were caught on steep, boulder-filled terrain in the Alpine section of Palisades Interstate Park near what's known as the Giant Stairs, PIP Police Lt. NJ Ex-Con Gets 25 Years In Fed Pen For Flooding Bergen, Passaic, Rockland Suburbs With Heroin A Paterson ex-con is headed to federal prison for 25 years for distributing heroin by the pound in Bergen, Passaic and Rockland counties. Reinaldo “Memo” Rodriguez, 30, was part of a network that that stretched from the Bronx to Paterson and into suburban towns in all three counties, U.S. Attorney Craig Carpenito said. Minivan Slams Into Paramus Tree: Driver Hospitalized, Wheelchair-Bound Passenger OK The driver of a van that struck a tree early Monday afternoon in Paramus was hospitalized after complaining of chest pains. A wheelchair-bound passenger whom she was transporting wasn't injured after the crash in front of 796 Paramus Road. The driver was taken to The Valley Hospital in Ridgewood. Palisades Parkway Police Rescue Suicidal Closter OD Victim In Locked Car At Alpine Lookout Palisades Interstate Parkway police rescued a suicidal 50-year-old Closter man after he’d overdosed in a moving car at the State Line Lookout in Alpine. Officers pulled behind the victim’s locked 2018 Lexus, which backed into their patrol unit, disabling it, as they tried to wake him on Sunday, Lt. Jock Watson Jr. said. Couple Found Dead In Paramus Home From Apparent Overdoses, Authorities Say A Paramus man and his live-in girlfriend were found dead of apparent drug overdoses at his parents' home over the weekend, authorities said. He was 47, she was 51, Police Chief Kenneth Ehrenberg said. His 77-year-old mother called police from their Forest Avenue home across from Van Saun Park shortly before 11 a.m. Saturday after finding him on the kitchen floor and her in a bedroom, thinking they'd both "just passed out" after using drugs, the chief said. Habitual Mahwah Offenders Charged With Drugs In Glen Rock Route 208 Stop Released Again A pair of 29-year-old habitual offenders from Mahwah were arrested by Glen Rock police on drug charges following a Route 208 stop – and then released soon after being booked into the Bergen County Jail. Authorities: Wanted Shooter Reaches For Gun, Subdued By Paterson Police Paterson police avoided a tragedy when they subdued a wanted city man who tried to pull a gun on them as they moved in to arrest him for a shooting, authorities said. Police began searching for Yusef M. Sex Assault Reported At Rutgers Authorities were searching for an intruder responsible for a reported sexual assault in a Rutgers dormitory early Sunday. The intruder got into an unlocked dorm room at the Livingston campus in Pisacataway and "made unwanted sexual contact" on a sleeping resident, Rutgers Police Chief Kenneth Cop said. SEE Anything? Hit-Run Pickup Slams Into Fairview Police Car Authorities were looking for the driver of a hit-and-run pickup truck that slammed into a Fairview police vehicle before dawn Sunday. The rented Chevy Tahoe slammed into the rear driver's side corner of the marked SUV directly across from police headquarters, Chief Martin Kahn said.
