A man from Florida was arrested in Washington Township for having illegal firearms after he and another man were initially busted for shoplifting from Target on Saturday, Feb. 3, police said on Facebook. Upon arriving at Target, police encountered two men, age 37 and 40, respectively, from Miami Gardens, officers said. Bloomfield Man Gets 35 Years For Murder Of Gas Station Attendant: Prosecutors A 36-year-old Bloomfield man was sentenced to 35 years in state prison on Tuesday, Feb. 6 after being convicted of murdering Jahque Benbow, a 23-year-old gas station attendant in May 2022, prosecutors announced. Lamar Sommers, along with two other men, conspired to shoot Benbow at the Irvington gas station where he worked, Acting Essex County Prosecutor Theodore Stephens II said.  Sommers waited in the car while the two men shot Benbow five times, Stephens said. Teen Cheerleader Critical After Struck By Hit, Run Vehicle In Newark: Prosecutor, Report An 18-year-old girl is in critical condition after being struck by a hit and run vehicle in Newark on Sunday, Feb. 4, authorities said. At 10:15 p.m., the girl was struck on the 500 block of Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard, Acting Essex County Prosecutor Theodore Stephens, II said. She was taken to University Hospital, Stephens said. According to ABC7, the girl is a cheerleader who had just returned to Newark Arts High School following a competition.  The Essex County Prosecutor’s Crime Scene Investigations Bureau is investigating the crash, Stephens said.
