Charges Upgraded For DWI Driver Who Killed Vineland High School Senior, Police Say Charges have been upgraded for a 54-year-old Vineland man who was driving drunk when he struck and killed a high school student riding his bicycle in April, authorities said Monday. Phillip J. Cox was charged Monday with death by auto and violation of law intended to protect health and safety in the April 29 crash involving 18-year-old Daniel A. Diaz, Vineland police announced.  He was initially issued summonses for driving while intoxicated and reckless driving. Body Recovered From Passaic River A body was recovered from the Passaic River in Hudson County Monday afternoon, police reports say. The New Jersey State Police Marine Unit was apparently dispatched to the area of the river near 1st Street in Harrison around 2:15 p.m. Last week, the bodies of a young couple who were swept away in Hurricane Ida's floodwaters were recovered from the river. As of Monday, a Little Falls woman who witnesses said was also swept into the river by the current remained missing. No further details were immediately released.

Police ID Motorcyclist Killed In Black Horse Pike Crash A motorcyclist was killed in a weekend crash on the Black Horse Pike in Egg Harbor Township, authorities said. Joseph Seif III was heading east when he veered off the road near the Elmwood Avenue intersection Saturday around 2:35 p.m., Egg Harbor Township police said.  Seif, of Galloway, struck a curb and overturned several times -- the motorcycle landing in the grass median. Seif was rushed to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead. A GoFundMe account for the father of four had raised $4,400 as of Monday. The account was launched by his son.

Bus Driver Shortage Sends Students Home Early In NJ District Students in one New Jersey school district will be going home early due to a bus driver staffing shortage. Glassboro school officials emailed parents on Friday saying the high school and intermediate schools would be dismissed 45 minutes earlier than normal due to a shortage of approximately eight drivers. A Board of Education meeting to discuss the issue is scheduled for Monday, Sept. 20 at 6:30 p.m., at the high school. Anyone with the proper credentials is urged to apply for a position.
