Seven fishermen were rescued by members of the U.S. Coast Guard as bad weather moved into the Jersey Shore Sunday afternoon. Crew members of the 40-foot sport fishing boat activated their Emergency Position Indicating Radio Beacon (EPIRB) from approximately 69 miles off the coast of Cape May around 1:20 p.m., the Coast Guard said in a statement. A small craft advisory for the area indicated 4-to-6-foot seas with winds gusting up to 30 knots. A Jersey Shore man was arrested for setting off molotov cocktails in a local Route 35 parking lot three nights last week, authorities said. Brendan J. Dunne, 24, of Holmdel, set off a series of fires believe to have started in a glass bottle containing charred pieces of cardboard in the Route 45 Costco and Cinemark parking lot July 19, 21 and 22, the Monmouth County Prosecutor's Office said. Pa. Firefighter Saved Son Before Drowning On Lake Erie Family Vacation, Family Says
A 38-year-old firefighter and U.S. Army veteran from Pennsylvania drowned on a family vacation over the weekend. Pittsburgh firefighter Lee Weber died in Lake Erie in Conneaut, Ohio on Saturday, July 24. Family members said Weber got caught in the tides and went under water, while getting his son to safety. Jersey City Man Charged With Murder In Weekend Stabbing, Prosecutor Says
A 55-year-old man was charged with murder in a stabbing that left an unidentified man dead over the weekend, authorities said. Steven Bardsley stabbed the man in the neck near 151 Cambridge Ave., just after 10 p.m. Saturday, July 24, Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez said. 19 Vaccine Proves 99.999% Effective In New Jersey
Forty-nine individuals who were fully-vaccinated against COVID-19 have died through July 12 in New Jersey, news reports say. In other words, the vaccine has proven to be 99.999 percent effective. Department of Health spokeswoman Donna Leusner told NJ Advance Media on Wednesday that more than half of those people had at least one underlying medical condition.
