The Pemberton Police Department is mourning the loss of one of its own. The department announced the death of Patrolman Brian Lucykanish on Friday, Feb. 2. Man Falls Down Elevator Shaft Prompting

Firefighters rescued a 38-year-old man who fell down an elevator shaft Thursday, Feb. 2 in Somerset County, authorities said. Responders found the Watchung man stuck in a building on Mettlers Road around 2:30 p.m. in Franklin Township, township police Lt. Vincent T. Wilson said. The victim was removed but had suffered multiple injuries, and was taken to the hospital by Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital BLS and ALS. The building was ordered to be evacuated by the Franklin Township fire marshal and fire inspectors and the building will be closed pending an OSHA investigation.

A teenage boy was killed Thursday night in a ferocious, fast-moving house fire in Midland Park. UPDATE: Boy, 16, ID'd As Victim Killed In Midland Park Fire Two other victims were hospitalized in the blaze, which apparently ignited on the first floor of the two-family home on Franklin Avenue home next to the borough public library shortly after 6:30 p.m. Feb. 2. Clifton Mechanic Charged With Multiple Sex Assaults On Child In Garfield
A 20-year-old Clifton mechanic was charged with committing multiple sexual assaults on a child in Garfield. Garfield police notified Special Victims Unit investigators of the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office on Jan. 23 of allegations that Erly Campoverde had sexually assaulted the child, who was younger than 16, more than once, Prosecutor Mark Musella said. A 30-year-old Sayreville councilwoman was shot dead outside of her home Wednesday, Feb. 1, authorities confirmed.
