An Essex County man has been convicted of killing a female college student and two juvenile siblings, and trying to kill three other victims who were ultimately saved by responders in 2016, authorities said. The attack was apparently prompted by a comment on Facebook. Kearny Police Release Details In Hours-Long SWAT Standoff
Police in Kearny have released details in an hours-long SWAT standoff that ended peacefully on Saturday, March 5. Officers and a mental health screener from Jersey City Medical Center’s Mobile Crisis Unit were trying to perform a welfare check on a man inside of a home near Webster and Passaic avenues when he barricaded himself inside around 8:45 a.m., KPD Chief George King said. Police in Baltimore are seeking the identity of two individuals wanted for raping a female victim at gunpoint last month, they said. The victim was walking on the 2500 block of Garrison Boulevard when two unknown males driving in a white 4-door sedan pulled up around 10 p.m. on Feb. 11, city police said. The passenger, Suspect 2, got out and pulled out a gun, forcing the woman to the back of an apartment building on the 2600 block of the road, police said. North Jersey High School Placed On Lockdown After Student Shows Up With Gun: Police
A Union County high school was placed on lockdown when a student brought handgun to school Friday, March 4, authorities said. The Arthur L. Johnson High School student was taken into custody and the firearm was recovered, Clark police said. Members of the Union County Prosecutor’s Office, Union County Police Department and Union County Sheriff’s Office responded to help secure the building. A 21-year-old woman is wanted in connection with a child abuse case that left her 3-year-old daughter fighting for her life, authorities said. Shaqwana Baker brought her daughter to NYU Langone Hospital on Jan. 23 with life-threatening injuries suffered at a motel in North Bergen, Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez said. The victim of a homicide whose body was found last week at Eagle Rock Reservation has been identified as a 31-year-old man from New York City, authorities announced. Kelsey Steels' body was discovered by hikers along a trail inside of the West Orange on Friday, March 4, Acting Essex County Prosecutor Theodore N. Stephens, II, said. A Maryland couple were arrested on accusations they killed an elderly man whom they knew then stole his car, authorities in Maryland said.
