Essex County Inmate Dies Days After Being Hit In Head With Broomstick: Report
An Essex County inmate who pleaded guilty in January to a charge of aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer died in jail days after being hit in the head with a broomstick during a fight, his family's attorney told NJ Advance Media. Garrison Bryant, 33, was struck with the broom on Feb. 20, then called his mom complaining of head pain and jumbling his words, the outlet said. Inmate Dies Of Suicide At Cumberland County Jail, Authorities Say
An inmate in the Cumberland County Jail died of suicide earlier this week, authorities said. The 54-year-old man was found unresponsive in his cell around 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday, March 1, according to a release from the Cumberland County Prosecutor's Office. Officers and medical staff responded and attempted life saving measures with negative results. An exact cause of death was pending autopsy results. A 47-year-old Jersey City man has been accused of sexually assaulting his 9-year-old stepdaughter for months, authorities said. The man, whose name was not released to protect the victim, was arrested by members of the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office Special Victims Unit on Wednesday, March 2, Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez said. A gunman has been convicted by a Hudson County jury in a 2019 mass shooting that left a 40-year-old North Bergen victim dead, authorities announced. Jonathan Haughey-Morales, 30, was convicted on Wednesday, March 2, on all charges relating to the shooting that killed Carlos Garcia and seriously injured three others in 2019, Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez said. The 12-year-old boy who was shot dead by undercover Philadelphia police officers after firing at their vehicle has been identified. Thomas Siderio shot at a an unmarked police vehicle occupied by plainclothes officers conducting an ongoing surveillance operation on 18th street, city police said.
