Williams, president of the Chicago Coated Board Company, erected Piermont’s first paper mill. The village had been in decline ever since the Erie Railroad’s terminus was relocated to Jersey City. When the factory came to town, Piermont was instantly transformed. For the next 80 years, it was defined by its deep blue-collar community.
