Jon graduated from Cornell University and received his master's degree in journalism from Northwestern University. Across a 35-year career, he's worked as a reporter for daily newspapers in Chicago, New York, Ohio & Washington, D.C and as managing editor for weekly newspapers in Rye, White Plains and Harrison.

Possible Drowning Reported Along Jersey Shore First responders were called to a report of possible drowning along the Jersey shore, authorities said. The water emergency was called about 4 p.m. off 100th Street in Long Beach, according to initial reports.  An unconfirmed report said the elderly swimmer had been pulled from the water and that EMTs were trying to revive her. New Jersey authorities have been warning about rough seas all week.  On Monday, a swimmer in his 60s drowned in Lavallette and five other swimmers were rescued in Seaside Park, authorities said.

Condominium Fire Leaves 12 Families Homeless In Burlington County A fire ripped through a condominium complex in Burlington County early Thursday, leaving dozens of people without housing, authorities said. The fire caused  extensive damage to 12 units at the Valley Glen condos in Maple Shade, according to reports. All.but one resident escaped the fire safely. That person was treated for smoke inhalation, officials said. The Red Cross was helping to relocate displaced residents. Update: South Jersey Police Investigate Fatal Electric Scooter Crash UPDATED: Authorities were investigating a crash in which a man riding an electric scooter in Burlington County was killed early Thursday. A man in his 30s was struck on Indel Avenue at Woodlane Road in Westampton about 6 a.m., according to initial reports. The victim's name had not been released. The man, who was reportedly thrown 100 feet from the impact, was pronounced dead at the crash scene, Westampton police said. The car's driver pulled over a short distance from the crash, police said.
