An (almost) lifelong Westchester resident, Sam has reported on all facets of Westchester since he graduated from Ryerson University with a degree in print journalism, including stints at North County News and The Examiner. A film columnist for WAG Magazine, Sam's moviegoing expertise has been profiled in the New York Times and he was a featured guest on VH1's Big Morning Buzz Live.

Man Fought, Spat On North Bergen PD A 36-year-old North Bergen man was arrested and charged after he fought with police officers and spit on them, authorities said. Jayson Sanchez was in a verbal dispute with another man at 8600 Columbia Ave when officers arrived on scene on Saturday, May 6, police said. Sanchez was heavily intoxicated and agitated and began to fight police, officers said. Sanchez resisted being placed under arrest and spit on officers and also tried to bite an officer, police said. Twenty Displaced Following Three Jersey City Fires Firefighters had a busy Sunday, May 8, in Jersey City, with three different residential fires displacing 20 people, authorities said. Jersey City firefighters were first called to 150 New York Ave. at 1:44 p.m. for a two-alarm fire in a three-story three-family residential structure, Kimberly Wallace-Scalfione, a spokeswoman for the mayor's office said. The home suffered extensive damage and nine people were relocated by the Red Cross, Wallace-Scalfione said. No injuries were reported, Wallace-Scalfione said. Kearny Dad Eric Carlen Dies, 32 Lifelong Kearny resident Eric Carlen is being remembered as a beloved husband and son, according to his obituary. The dad of three died on Friday, April 28 at the age of 32, according to his obituary. He worked as a construction laborer in Mountainside and was married to his wife, Mariana, his obituary reads. Carlen is also survived by his father, Paul and his three daughters, Kaelyn, Kylee and Keira, his obituary reads. A fundraiser has been set up to support his daughters. Nabisco Implosion Called Off Completely Amid public outcry, the company behind plans to implode the shuttered Nabisco factory in Fair Lawn is reversing course. Greek Development, which is redeveloping the property, sent out a statement Monday, May 8, and said the building will not be imploded. Instead, they said they will use an alternative method of demolition that does not involve explosives. The implosion was originally set for Saturday, April 15 but was postponed. North Jersey Business Owes Employees $910K: Department of Labor A staffing agency in Bergen County has been ordered to pay 289 employees $910,000 in back wages, the Department of Labor announced following a court action. Advantix Logistics in Lyndhurst failed to pay hourly employees overtime wages for working more than 40 hours a week, the Department of Labor said.
