Massive Jersey City Blaze Finally Under Control (Update) The 7-alarm fire in Jersey City blaze that broke out on Tuesday, April 11, was under control as of Wednesday morning, April 12, officials said. Firefighters will remain at the recycling plant at 1 Caven Point Ave., where the fire started, to put out any hotspots, said Kimberly Wallace-Scalcione, the press secretary for the mayor's office. Bicyclist Seriously Injured After Falling, Hitting Head In North Bergen: Police A bicyclist suffered life-threatening injuries after he fell off his bike and hit his head on rocks in North Bergen on Tuesday, April 11, according to police. The bicyclist, whose name has not been released, was traveling downhill on Granton Avenue and hit the sidewalk, which caused his fall, police said. He was taken to a nearby hospital where he was listed in serious condition, police said. Officers are investigating, but do not believe any foul play was involved, police said.

No Fuel For Annoying ATVs, Dirt Bikes: Jersey City Mayor Illegal ATVs and dirt bikes have become a nuisance to residents, Jersey City Mayor Steven Fulop said. Fulop and two Jersey City City Councilwomen are proposing a new city ordinance that would prohibit gas stations from selling fuel to illegally operated dirt bikes and ATVs. New Milford's Peter Eckert Dies 3 Days After Leukemia Diagnosis, 35 Peter Charles Eckert Jr., who died on Sunday, March 26, always wanted to be a father and was so excited to teach his newborn son, Cooper, how to swim and play baseball, according to his obituary. Eckert, a Bergen County native, passed away three days after his 35th birthday, the same day he was diagnosed with an aggressive case of acute leukemia, and a month after Cooper was born.
