Hackensack Police Set To Have Its First Chief In 14 Years: Meet Michael Antista
The Hackensack Police Department is expected to have its first chief in 14 years. Capt. Michael Antista is set to be sworn in at the Tuesday, Oct. 15 council meeting. The previous chief was Chief Ken Zisa, who was charged with fraud official misconduct and then left. Raymond Guidetti will remain the police director. Freak Accident Kills Boy, 12, Playing In Lawrence Township Backyard: Police
A New Jersey boy was killed when a tree fell on him in a backyard, authorities said. Lucas Schwartz, 12, was identified as the victim of the Eldridge Avenue incident in Lawrence Township on a GoFundMe page. Police said he'd been playing with a friend in the backyard of a home when gusty winds blew the tree over, and it fell onto him around 12:09 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 14. Big Lots To Shut These New Jersey Stores: Closing Sales Under Way
Big Lots! has announced the closures of even more locations since filing for bankruptcy in September. The company announced on Monday, Sept. 9 that it will sell its assets to an affiliate of private equity firm Nexus Capital Management. 2 Dead In 3-Car Newark Bridge Crash That Left Vehicles Mangled
Police have identified the two people killed in a three-vehicle crash on a Newark bridge over the weekend. Anaji Ryan, of Carteret, was driving a Ford Focus which collided with a Dodge Durango and Subaru Outback on the Raymond Boulevard Bridge in the city’s Ironbound section around 4 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 12, Essex County Prosecutor Theodore N. Popular Newark Man Killed By Hit-Run Driver: Prosecutor
Police have made an arrest in a hit-and-run crash that killed a popular Newark man. Ahmed Bouda, 29 has been charged after authorities said he struck and killed Corey Claybrook around 1:30 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 14 on the 600 block of Springfield Avenue then fled the scene, Essex County Prosecutor Theodore N. Stephens, II and Newark Public Safety Director Fritz Frage said. Claybrook died approximately one hour later. A Bergen County man has filed a lawsuit against online sports betting website FanDuel alleging the company breached its own policy and failed to pay him his full winnings after he pulled out of an active bet. Michael Wadlow, 35, of Upper Saddle River (and soon Ramsey), filed the suit on Oct. 4 in New Jersey Superior Court alleging he self-excluded from a bet with a $5,800 cash-out option and was only refunded his inital $500 wager. Train Operator Dead, 24 Passengers Hurt In NJ Transit Crash With Tree In Mansfield
A train operator was killed and multiple others hurt after a tree fell on an NJ Transit train Monday morning, Oct. 14 in Burlington County. The incident happened around 6 a.m. on the River LINE train, which had been heading north from Trenton when it struck a tree south of the Roebling Station in Mansfield Township, an NJ Transit spokesperson said. Details Released In Route 3 Dump Truck Crash In Clifton
Police have released details in a dump truck crash that closed a portion of Route 3 early Monday, Oct. 14. The 38-year-old Budd Lake (Morris County) driver lost control of the 2022 Mack truck in the eastbound lanes in Clifton while trying to avoid a crash with another car around 5:05 a.m. near Main Avenue, Police Lt. Robert Anderson said. The dump truck overturned and came to a rest after hitting a utility pole on the eastbound shoulder. No injuries were reported.
