NJ Mall Is Getting Major Overhaul Complete With Luxury Apartments, Outdoor Entertainment Space
A major redevelopment of Monmouth Mall is about to begin, transforming the shopping center into luxury apartments, new retail options, and a town center. The developer, Kushner — with headquarters in Florham Park and New York City — is planning to convert the 64-year-old mall on Route 35 in Eatontown into a large attraction called Monmouth Square. Kushner's chief development officer Michael Sommer said the redevelopment will turn the mall inside out by tearing down indoor halls to create an open-air concept, with demolition set to begin in March. Winning Lottery Ticket Worth $429K Sold In Atlantic County
A lucky lottery winner in Atlantic County will start the new year with almost half a million dollars. The NJ Lottery says a ticket worth $429,298 was sold in the Jersey Cash 5 drawing on Wednesday, Jan. 3. The ticket was purchased at Canal's Discount Liquor Mart on Black Horse Pike in Mays Landing. The winning numbers were 3, 7, 11, 32, and 34. The XTRA number was 5. The liquor store will receive a bonus check of $2,000.

Meteor Shower Dazzles Tonight: How to Catch 2024 Quadrantids
Keep an eye on the sky along the East Coast tonight. The first meteor shower of 2024, the Quadrantids, is expected to be visible overnight Wednesday, Jan. 3 and peak in the early in the morning hours on Thursday, Jan. 4. The American Meteor Society says the best time to catch a falling star in North America will be between 1 and 5 a.m. Astronomers consider the Quadrantids as one of the best annual meteor showers. Thieves Take Advantage Of Broken Lock At Jersey Shore Wawa: Police
Police are looking for the people responsible for taking advantage of a broken lock at a Wawa store in Wall Township early New Year's Day. Wall Township police say it happened in the Wawa at the corner of New Jersey Route 35 and Lakewood Road. Officers arrived at the store at around 2 a.m. on Monday, Jan. 1. When officers got to the store, they found a note on the front door saying it was closed from 11 p.m. on New Year's Eve to 6 a.m. on New Year's Day. Crash Causes Large Backup On Route 9
Traffic was backed up for about a mile after a crash on US Route 9 in Old Bridge Township on Wednesday afternoon, Jan. 3. The NJDOT says the crash happened on US 9 North just before 1 p.m. Crews responded to the crash and a fluid spill. Two lanes were closed on US 9 to the interchange with New Jersey Route 18. A traffic camera showed about a ten-minute delay on US 19 more than an hour after the crash was reported. There's no word yet about how many vehicles were in the crash or if anyone was injured.

19 Cases Rise Along Jersey Shore After Holidays
COVID-19 cases are rising across New Jersey and along the Jersey Shore after the holidays. According to state health department data, 7,830 people tested positive for the virus in New Jersey during the week ending on Saturday, Dec. 30. That's more than seven times as many reported about a month ago, when there were 969 cases in the week ending on Saturday, Dec. 2. The number of patients in New Jersey hospitals has also risen in the last month, with 1,380 people reported in hospitals with COVID-19 on Tuesday, Jan. 2. A family is rallying for support after the sudden death of Toms River resident Alexander Moy. According to a GoFundMe page, 55-year-old Alexander "Alex" Moy died suddenly on Saturday, Dec. 30. As of Wednesday, Jan. 3, Moy's GoFundMe had raised at least $3,800 from 18 donations. The memorial fundraiser called Moy a great partner, brother, son, friend, and uncle. Man Beat Two Women He Held Hostage In Atlantic City: Cops
An Atlantic City man was arrested after police say he held two women hostage and beat them inside a home on New Year's Day. Justin Williams, 39, is facing a dozen charges. They include multiple counts of robbery, aggravated assault, and terroristic threats. Officers first arrived at a home on North Georgia Avenue just after 9 a.m. on Sunday, Dec. 31. Crews Hoist Vehicle That Veered Off Garden State Parkway
A vehicle that veered off of the Garden State Parkway in Toms River was hoisted back on the roadway on Wednesday, Jan. 3. The NJDOT says it happened north of the Toms River toll plaza just after 8:30 a.m. A traffic camera showed a car lifted onto a tow truck bed near mile marker 85 about 90 minutes after the incident was first reported. Large Crowds, Gov. Murphy Mourn Death Of Esteemed Lakewood Rabbi
Throngs of people were expected at a funeral service for an esteemed rabbi in Lakewood Wednesday, Jan. 3. Grand Rabbi Rav Matisyahu Chaim Salomon, a longtime leader of Beth Medrash Govoha Yeshiva, a Haredi Jewish learning institution, died on Tuesday, Jan. 2. He was 86 years old. Gov. Phil Murphy was among those who offered his condolences after Rabbi Salomon's death.
