Hackettstown Man Asks Couple At Home Depot About Smashing Woman's Skull In With Pickaxe: Police A Hackettstown man approached a couple at a local Home Depot to ask about smashing a woman’s skull in with a pickaxe, authorities charged. The 66-year-old man was shopping at the Mansfield store on August 8 when he approached a couple while holding a pickaxe type tool and asked, “what side do you think I should use to smash her [expletive] skull in?” township police said in a Tuesday release. Arson Units Probe Morris County House Fire Arson units are investigating a fire that ravaged a Morris County home late Tuesday night. The fire was spotted by a Chester Township patrol officer at 25 Lamerson Rd. in Chester Township just before 10:45 p.m., police said. The blaze was extinguished by the Chester Township Volunteer Fire Department with help from fire companies in Peapack-Gladstone, Far Hills, Bernardsville, Liberty Corner, Pottersville, New Vernon, Ralston, Mendham Borough, Brookside, Fairmount, Flanders, Budd Lake and Randolph, police said. Woman Hospitalized After SUV Hits Route 287 Divider, Overturns In Morris County A woman was hospitalized Tuesday morning after her SUV hit a divider and overturned on Route 287 in Morris County, state police said. The woman was behind the wheel of a Toyota RAV4 when she lost control of the vehicle, causing it to hit the divider and overturn in the northbound lanes near milepost 32.7 in Harding Township just after 11 a.m., NJSP Sgt. Philip Curry told Daily Voice. The woman was taken to Morristown Medical Center for treatment of injuries deemed non-life-threatening, Curry said. The cause of the crash remains under investigation.

Victim Airlifted With Serious Injuries After Falling At Hunterdon County Apartment Complex A victim was airlifted to a local hospital with serious injuries after falling at a Hunterdon County apartment complex, authorities said. The victim fell at Hunter Hills Apartments in Flemington Tuesday morning, the Flemington-Raritan First Aid and Rescue Squad said. Due to the severity of injuries, the victim was airlifted to Capital Health / Helene Fuld by NJSP NorthSTAR with a landing zone at the Flemington-Raritan Intermediate School field on Capner Street, the rescue squad said. Flemington Police also assisted at the scene. Additional details were not released.

Lehigh Valley Man Threatens To Shoot Neighbor Setting Fireworks, Police Say A Northampton County man who told officers that he would shoot his neighbor for setting off fireworks has been charged, police said. Paul J. Hitzel, 74, called police to the 2000 block of Delabole Road in Plainfield Township on a complaint of a neighbor setting off fireworks just before 6:30 p.m. Sunday, authorities said. Elderly Man Drowns On Labor Day In Sparta's Lake Mohawk The body of an 80-year-old Sussex County man was pulled from Lake Mohawk after an accidental drowning on Labor Day afternoon, police confirmed. Lawrence Botts, of Sparta, was attempting to use an inner tube to go around the side of his dock to get onto land from Lake Mohawk when the tube started to drift away from the boat into the water shortly after 12 p.m., Sparta Police Lt.
