An (almost) lifelong Westchester resident, Sam has reported on all facets of Westchester since he graduated from Ryerson University with a degree in print journalism, including stints at North County News and The Examiner. Broken, Cracked Route 6 Pavement Undergoing Renovation PUTNAM COUNTY, N.Y. - Route 6 is getting a makeover. Five miles of Route 6 from Route 52 to Tilly Foster Road in Carmel will be getting paved and repaired as part of a $103.8 million infrastructure investment throughout the mid-Hudson Valley. Yorktown Police Dispose of 212 Pounds of Prescription Drugs YORKTOWN, N.Y. -- The prescription drug disposal unit in Yorktown set up by the Alliance for Safe Kids and the Yorktown Police Department recently is doing what it can to help fight the opioid epidemic. On Tuesday, the Yorktown Police Department disposed of 212 pounds of prescription and over-the-counter drugs. The unit was installed in May of 2012 and has since collected 2,834 lbs of drugs from the medicine cabinets of local residents – about 46 lbs a month. More than 70 percent of young people abusing prescription pain relievers get them through friends or family. The collection site is …

William Strohm, 86, Former Yorktown Heights Resident YORKTOWN HEIGHTS, N.Y. -- William George Strohm, 86, of Erlanger, KY and formerly of Yorktown Heights passed away on July 4, surrounded by his loving family. Strohm was born on August 23, 1930, on Long Island, to Fred and Dorothy Strohm. He served in the Naval Reserve for five years and graduated from the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute with a Masters in electrical engineering. Strohm accrued numerous patents during his 35-year career with IBM Research and Development. New PepsiCo Facility In Mount Pleasant Gets Approval The Mount Pleasant Planning Board granted PepsiCo a site plan approval to build a three-story research and development facility in Valhalla Thursday. The planning board also approved a steep slope application for the 114,000 square-foot property at 350 Columbus Avenue in Valhalla. PepsiCo plans to make renovations to two buildings on the site and to add 128 parking spaces.

Family Of Slain Yonkers MLB Draft Choice Holds Scholarship Softball Tourney YONKERS, N.Y. -- More than 700 people will be coming together in Yonkers to play softball and remember Mike Nolan. Nolan's family is hosting a softball tournament on Saturday, July 22 at Cook Field in Yonkers to raise money for the Michael Nolan Scholarship Fund from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Twenty teams will be playing, including the Yonkers Police Department, Yonkers Fire Department, and Westchester County Police.
