Before settling into the Hudson Valley, Zak! previously spent time in the New York Daily News newsroom and worked for hyperlocal digital news outlets on Long Island. He wrote sports for The Ithacan and The Ithaca Journal before taking his talents to the Pacific Northwest, where he served as the sports editor at the Shoshone News-Press until heading back east to work with Daily Voice.

SPCA Charges Long Island Woman With Animal Cruelty For Mistreating Dog Investigators from the SPCA on Long Island arrested a woman who is facing an animal cruelty charge after being arrested for allegedly neglecting her mistreated dog. In Suffolk County, SPCA detectives charged Marylyn Richards, age 58, of West Babylon, on Friday, Oct. 22 following an investigation into allegations that she failed to provide her dog with veterinary care and grooming which caused the dog severe pain, discomfort, and suffering. Police Search For Missing Westchester Man Seen him? An alert has been issued by police in Westchester who are attempting to locate a missing 70-year-old man who may be in need of medical attention. The Yonkers Police Department is seeking the public’s assistance in tracking down Roy Vaughn, who has been missing since Friday, Oct. 15. According to his family and friends, Vaughn was last seen leaving his apartment on Orchard Street in Yonkers to take a trip to an area deli. He has not been seen or heard from since. Speeding Driver Busted For DWI After Nearly Striking Officer In Westchester The tire of an allegedly drunk driver in Westchester deflated in front of an officer as he was attempting to deny speeding and striking a curb after he nearly drove into him, police said. 'Career Car Thief' Convicted By Jury In Area A “career car thief” who has been active for decades in the Hudson Valley may spend the rest of his life in prison after being convicted by a jury, the District Attorney announced. Nor'easter: Here's Latest Long Island Power Outage Update Nearly 2,000 Long Island residents remain without power after whipping winds and rain caused outages, mainly in Suffolk County. As of 9:15 a.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 27, PSEG Long Island utility crews were still working to repair 99 active outages that were impacting 1,771 of their 1,172,768 customers. Missing Westchester Kayaker Reportedly Found Dead In Water A kayaker from Westchester who went missing on the Long Island Sound was reportedly found dead in the water and brought back to the area by police. Brinks Getaway Driver Granted Clemency By Cuomo Now Gets Parole David Gilbert, the getaway driver in the fatal 1981 Brinks robbery in Rockland County that claimed the lives of three, has been granted parole after spending decades in prison.
