Tax Breaks For Holiday Inn Express Approved By Orange County IDA WALLKILL, N.Y. -- A Holiday Inn Express is coming to Walkill. The Orange County Industrial Development Agency recently approved tax breaks for the $14.93 million, 93-room, 54,280-room Holiday Inn Express and Suites Hotel, set to open in spring 2019 at 599 East Main Street, according to the Times Herald-Record. Lost Dog Reunited With Owner In Red Hook RED HOOK, N.Y. --- It was a joyous reunion between man and his best friend in Red Hook. A lost dog was reunited with his owner in Red Hook after an overwhelming response to a Facebook post by the Red Hook Police Department.  The dog was found at 79 Hapeman Hill Rd. and the post was shared 1,100 times by 45,184 people. A Rhode Island resident, who previously lived in Red Hook, recognized the dog and contacted police.  The owner is an elderly resident who has owned the dog for 17 years. Assisted Living Facility Proposed In New City NEW CITY, N.Y. -- Another senior living complex is being proposed for New City. A three-story 70,000 square foot 80 unit building is being proposed on five acres near Phillips Hill Road. There will be 64 one bedroom units and 16 two bedroom units, according to documents submitted to the Clarkstown Planning Board. The project is currently being reviewed by the planning board. The Applebaum family, which is behind the proposal, is also proposing a complex for people 55 years and older on the Buckley Farms property across the street.

Briarcliff Cheerleaders Head To Nationals BRIARCLIFF MANOR, N.Y. -- The Briarcliff cheerleading squad is going to Disney World. The cheerleaders will be competing at the National High Scool Cheerleading Championship on Feb. 10-11 at Walt Disney World. The contest will be televised on ESPN. This is the first time Briarcliff is competing at nationals. The team qualified after competing at a regional competition in the Poconos.  The 15 cheerleaders, coached by Stephanie Georgioudakis, do a three-minute routine featuring cheers, stunting, and dancing.

Gov. Cuomo Unveils State Budget New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo unveiled his $168 billion 2018-2019 budget to lawmakers on Tuesday. Cuomo's budget includes a three-percent increase in funding for schools and a one-percent increase in funding for higher education. The budget also increases funding for capital projects by 14 percent and health care by three-percent. The budget also reduces spending on transportation, community colleges, mental hygiene and state agencies. Astrid Wray, 77, Mount Kisco MOUNT KISCO, N.Y. --  Astrid Margareta Svenson Wray died Saturday morning of pancreatic cancer in Mount Kisco. Wray was born on May 14, 1940, in Sweden. She worked at Northern Westchester Hospital Center and The Harvey School, Katonah, before becoming a full-time mother. She was a founding member of the local Knights of Columbus Ladies Auxiliary where she held active duty at many offices for a time. She is predeceased by her husband Raymond F.
