Ossining Superintendent Honored For 'Dynamic Leadership' OSSINING, N.Y. -- Ossining Superintendent Raymond Sanchez has been selected as a “Superintendent to Watch” for the 2017-18 academic year by the National School Public Relations Association. Man Caught With Crack Cocaine At Bank In Jefferson Valley, Police Say A Northern Westchester man was charged with possessing crack cocaine at TD Bank in Jefferson Valley Monday afternoon. William Gerbe III, 28, of Yorktown Heights was arrested and charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance in the seventh degree, a Class A Misdemeanor after officers initially observed his vehicle had no registration sticker, tinted windows, and an obstructed view, police said. New York Times Spotlights Pelham's 'Friendly Vibe' PELHAM, N.Y. -- The oldest town in Westchester was featured in The New York Times. Pelham was settled in 1634 and is the southernmost town in the county. The Times looked at its downtown and its unique housing stock, which features 2,800 single-family homes. Astorino Issues Executive Order On Immigration WESTCHESTER COUNTY, N.Y. -- County Executive Rob Astorino said he is committed to making sure Westchester does not become a "sanctuary county." Astorino issued an executive order Wednesday that says county law enforcement will continue to cooperate with federal authorities in investigating and apprehending immigrants involved in criminal activity but will be prohibited from asking about their legal status unless required by law. Elmsford Men Turn Out For 'Dads Take Your Child To School Day' ELMSFORD, N.Y. -- There were long lines outside Elmsford schools on Tuesday, as the district celebrated "Dads Take Your Child To School Day."Fathers and their children were waiting in line to sign a certificate that said: "Thank You For Taking Me To School Today." Free Flu Shots Offered For Westchester Residents WESTCHESTER COUNTY, N.Y. -- The county is doing what it can to ensure its residents don't get the flu this fall. The Westchester County Health Department will be giving free flu shots to college students and residents at two locations next month in Valhalla and White Plains. Schneiderman Takes Trump To Task In Rye Brook Visit RYE BROOK, N.Y. -- New York Attorney General Eric Schneiderman is no fan of President Donald Trump. Schneiderman gave a speech at the Business Council of Westchester's Political Leadership Series last week in Rye Brook. Paint The Village: Tivoli Hosting Annual Street Painting Day TIVOLI, N.Y. -- Artists of all ages will be coming out to Tivoli on Saturday as the town celebrates its 17th annual street painting day. The event, which runs from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Broadway in Tivoli, features artists painting on a square of pavement. About 250 artists participate each year. Woman Fails To Pay Fine For Leaving Dog In Hot Car, Yorktown Police Say WESTCHESTER COUNTY, N.Y. -- A Bedford woman who was inducted into the Westchester County Senior Hall of Fame was arrested in Yorktown Tuesday for failing to pay a fine after leaving her dog unattended in a car. Lynda O'Hanlon of Katonah, inducted in 2014, was arrested on the bench warrant, police said. In July, she was arrested after leaving a dog inside her hot car with the windows closed at the Triangle Shopping Center. O'Hanlon was turned over to Yorktown Police from New York State Police. She was released on $500 bail and is due back in court on Sept. 26.

Westchester Walk To End Alzheimer's Moves To SUNY Purchase PURCHASE, N.Y. -- The West Lawn of SUNY Purchase is the new home of Sunday's 2017 Westchester Walk To End Alzheimer's, run by the Alzheimer's Association. Registration for the walk begins at 9 a.m., with an opening ceremony beginning at 10 a.m. followed by the walk. Last year's walk was held at White Plains High School.
