An (almost) lifelong Westchester resident, Sam has reported on all facets of Westchester since he graduated from Ryerson University with a degree in print journalism, including stints at North County News and The Examiner. A film columnist for WAG Magazine, Sam's moviegoing expertise has been profiled in the New York Times and he was a featured guest on VH1's Big Morning Buzz Live.

Putnam Valley Has Been Wrestling With Success This Season PUTNAM VALLEY, N.Y. -- It's been a banner year for the Putnam Valley High School wrestling team. The squad recently took home a Division II title at the Section 1 duals. It is quite the achievement for a program that only has existed since 2000. The wrestling team is coached by Will Carano, who helped get students into wrestling and get the community behind the team. "There was no program before then," Carano said. Prominent Ossining Artist Is Charged With Sexual Assault In Vermont OSSINING, N.Y. -- Mark Sadan, a 75-year-old Ossining resident was arrested and charged with two counts of aggravated sexual assault on a minor by police in Vermont. Sadan, a prominent artist, filmmaker and photographer in the village was arrested on Dec. 19 in the state of Florida. A warrant had been issued for Sadan's arrest in Vermont on Dec. 8 after being accused by Montpelier Police of sexually assaulting two minors over several years. Yorktown News Photographer Stan Gitner Dies At 85 YORKTOWN, NY. -- Stan Gitner, a news photographer known for being a fixture at accidents and fires, died on Saturday at the age of 85. Gitner died at Hudson Valley Hospital Center in Cortlandt after a recent illness. Before becoming a news photographer, Gitner worked in motion picture film rejuvenation for more than 30 years. Gitner was also a Yorktown Auxiliary Police Officer and in 1982 he was appointed the Deputy Director of the Town of Yorktown Office of Disaster and Emergency Services, a position he held until his death. Byram Hills Hockey Team Will Show Its Pink Spirit ARMONK, N.Y. -- The Brewster Ice Arena will be colored in pink Friday, Jan. 9 when the Byram Hills hockey team plays its annual game to raise money for breast cancer. The school's third annual Pink the Rink hockey game against Bedford's Fox Lane takes place at 7 p.m. with players wearing pink jerseys and socks to honor those affected by breast cancer. Cortland Manor Resident Launches Website For New Notebook Project CORTLANDT MANOR, N.Y. -- A Cortlandt Manor resident is turning to Kickstarter, a crowdfunding website, for his new notebook project. Tom Leszczynski launched a Kickstarter for tpad, a refillable Titanium-bound notepad. The tpad is a grade five titanium bound notepad with refillable titanium coils. Former Peekskill Residents Host Annual Reunion In Florida PEEKSKILL, N.Y. -- You can take a person out of Peekskill, but you can't take Peekskill out of the person. Every year, Rich and Eileen Baisley, former Peekskill High School graduates, host an annual reunion of former Peekskill residents in Jupiter, Fla. This year, the reunion is taking place in Carlin Park in Jupiter on Feb. 19. The reunion, which goes from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., has been going on for 28 years and last year more than 150 former Peekskillians were in attendance. 'Wizard Of Oz' Yellow Brick Road Peekskill Tale Is Disproved PEEKSKILL, N.Y. -- Could the yellow brick road from the "The Wizard of Oz" really lead to Peekskill? One of the city's most enduring tales is that when L. Frank Baum, author of "The Wizard of Oz," arrived in Peekskill by boat from his hometown of Chittenango, N.Y., to attend Peekskill Military Academy, he asked someone how to get to the school. Briarcliff Middle School Hosts Literary Tasting BRIARCLIFF, N.Y. -- The Briarcliff Middle School library was transformed last week into a literary restaurant offering students a diverse taste of action, romance, and nonfiction. The middle school hosted a literary tasting that allowed 6th graders to act as sous chefs as they tested different literary genres.
