An (almost) lifelong Westchester resident, Sam has reported on all facets of Westchester since he graduated from Ryerson University with a degree in print journalism, including stints at North County News and The Examiner. A film columnist for WAG Magazine, Sam's moviegoing expertise has been profiled in the New York Times and he was a featured guest on VH1's Big Morning Buzz Live.

Reopening Of Greeley's Main Contest Field Delayed CHAPPAQUA, N.Y. -- Those looking to use the Competition Field and Track at Horace Greeley High School will have to wait for a couple more weeks.The district announced the field will now open the week of Aug. 28. The field was originally scheduled to open in mid-August. The district blamed the delay on materials required for the track surface having to be ordered from Europe. The opening ceremony is still scheduled for Friday, Sept. 8. The field has been closed since April.

Cuomo Keeps Reeling In Big Donors For Re-Election Campaign Gov. Andrew Cuomo is fundraising at a prolific pace as he gears up for re-election next year. According to a campaign filing, Cuomo raised more than $5 million over the past six months and has more than $25 million cash on hand. Cuomo is running for a third term next year. Donors have included movie producer Harvey Weinstein, Ken Langone, founder of Home Depot, and Jim Walton, a member of the family that owns Walmart. Westchester County Executive Rob Astorino, who ran against Cuomo in 2014, and Dutchess County Executive Marc Molinaro have been mentioned as possible challengers to Cuomo.

Yorktown Swim, Dive Team Celebrates Undefeated Regular Season YORKTOWN, N.Y. -- It was a season to remember for the Yorktown Swim and Dive Team. The team, made up of 150 swimmers, went 5-0 in Division 1 in the Northern Westchester Swim Conference, finishing second in the championships on Saturday. "The season was very special," Coach Margit Cooley said. When Cooley started five years ago, the team was down to 80 swimmers and about to be relegated to Division II. Charles Gilbert, 86, Former Principal In Ossining Charles “Charlie” Frederick Gilbert, formerly of Ossining, died on July 10. He died peacefully at the Villages Hospice House near his home in Florida, following a brief illness. He was 86 years old. Gilbert was born to George H. Gilbert and Emily Lawrence Rohlfs Gilbert and raised with his two sisters, Emily and Janet in Ossining. He attended Ossining High School and served as freshman class president. After graduating, he attended New York State Teachers College in New Paltz and later obtained a Masters from New York University. He played center on his basketball team in college. He also …

New Tappan Zee Bridge Project 'Far From Over', Day Says Though an opening date has been set for the new Tappan Zee Bridge, Rockland County Executive Ed Day said he is remaining focused on some unanswered questions. The first half of the new bridge replacement will open on Friday, August 25, according to Gov. Andrew Cuomo. From All-American To Acting: Former Greeley Star Athlete Makes His Mark An ankle injury his junior year at Horace Greeley High School ended up being very fortuitous to Lowell Byers. Byers, a Chappaqua native, is an actor based in New York City. He recently gained notice for a Choice Hotel commercial now running frequently on TV in which he says the catchphrase, "Badda book.
