An (almost) lifelong Westchester resident, Sam has reported on all facets of Westchester since he graduated from Ryerson University with a degree in print journalism, including stints at North County News and The Examiner. A film columnist for WAG Magazine, Sam's moviegoing expertise has been profiled in the New York Times and he was a featured guest on VH1's Big Morning Buzz Live.

Byram Hills Hockey Team Will Show Its Pink Spirit ARMONK, N.Y. -- The Brewster Ice Arena will be colored in pink Friday, Jan. 9 when the Byram Hills hockey team plays its annual game to raise money for breast cancer. The school's third annual Pink the Rink hockey game against Bedford's Fox Lane takes place at 7 p.m. with players wearing pink jerseys and socks to honor those affected by breast cancer. A bake sale is taking place this week and other fundraising events will be occurring at the game. Cortland Manor Resident Launches Website For New Notebook Project CORTLANDT MANOR, N.Y. -- A Cortlandt Manor resident is turning to Kickstarter, a crowdfunding website, for his new notebook project. Tom Leszczynski launched a Kickstarter for tpad, a refillable Titanium-bound notepad. The tpad is a grade five titanium bound notepad with refillable titanium coils. The Kickstarter campaign has raised $12,130, more than it's goal of $7,000, with 34 more days to go. "I'm using the hardest metal known to man," Leszczynski said. Former Peekskill Residents Host Annual Reunion In Florida PEEKSKILL, N.Y. -- You can take a person out of Peekskill, but you can't take Peekskill out of the person. Every year, Rich and Eileen Baisley, former Peekskill High School graduates, host an annual reunion of former Peekskill residents in Jupiter, Fla. This year, the reunion is taking place in Carlin Park in Jupiter on Feb. 19. The reunion, which goes from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., has been going on for 28 years and last year more than 150 former Peekskillians were in attendance. 'Wizard Of Oz' Yellow Brick Road Peekskill Tale Is Disproved PEEKSKILL, N.Y. -- Could the yellow brick road from the "The Wizard of Oz" really lead to Peekskill? One of the city's most enduring tales is that when L. Frank Baum, author of "The Wizard of Oz," arrived in Peekskill by boat from his hometown of Chittenango, N.Y., to attend Peekskill Military Academy, he asked someone how to get to the school. Briarcliff Middle School Hosts Literary Tasting BRIARCLIFF, N.Y. -- The Briarcliff Middle School library was transformed last week into a literary restaurant offering students a diverse taste of action, romance, and nonfiction. The middle school hosted a literary tasting that allowed 6th graders to act as sous chefs as they tested different literary genres. Dog Reported Missing In Armonk Is Found ARMONK, N.Y. -- The Gaeta family in West Harrison is relieved to have their dog, Murphy, back safe and sound after he ran off in Armonk. Murphy, who went missing on Dec. 26, was found on Wednesday near Frog Rock Road. The woodle had run away from his dog walker while his leash was still attached in the Betsy Sluder Nature Preserve. The dog was found through the help of Nicole Asher of Norwalk-based Buddah Dog Rescue and Recovery. Asher was able to pinpoint where Murphy was and set up a humane trap to find him. West Harrison Family Is Looking For Dog That Went Missing In Armonk ARMONK, N.Y. -- It would be a very happy new year for the Gaeta family of West Harrison if they were able to find their dog, Murphy, who went missing in Armonk a few days ago. Murphy, a woodle, a poodle/terrier mix, went missing on Friday after running away from his dog walker while his leash was still attached in the Betsy Sluder Nature Preserve. Guess What Putnam Valley HS Students Are Reading? A Newspaper PUTNAM VALLEY, N.Y. -- At Putnam Valley High School, the death of print media has been greatly exaggerated. The school's newspaper, The Tiger's Den, has proven to be a big hit with teachers, students and administrators. Police Pursue Suspect In Mugging Of Woman In Cortlandt CORTLANDT, N.Y. -- State Police in Cortlandt are investigating a robbery that occurred Monday night in front of the Peekskill Animal Hospital near Route 202.
