Monroe Police Step Up Enforcement On Distracted Driving MONROE, Conn. -- The Monroe Police Department is joining with the Connecticut Department of Transportation to remind drivers to "Subtract the Distraction." They will be increasing their cell phone and texting enforcement through Aug. 16. Distracted driving is dangerous for drivers and passengers as well as everyone else on the road, police said. Officers will be cracking down on cell phone enforcement in an effort to keep the road safe. The minimum fine for texting or talking is $150 for the first offense.
