Westchester Mets Win Softball Championship SHRUB OAK, N.Y. -- The Westchester Mets defeated the Shrub Oak Pirates in the deciding game of the three-game Men's Senior Baseball League series under the lights Oct. 7 at Lakeland High School. Each team had earlier advanced through the semifinal round, and had split a doubleheader in a head-to-head matchup. The longtime rivals were primed for another close match, but veteran Mets pitcher Doug FitzMorris pitched a nine-inning complete-game victory. FitzMorris blanked the Pirates through eight innings. Yoga Tots Headlines Children’s Programs At Scarsdale Library SCARSDALE, N.Y. -- Toddlers ages 3-5 can have fun "playing yoga" during Yoga Tots, a new program at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the Scarsdale Public Library. Students From Danbury's Wooster School Visit Aldrich Museum DANBURY, Conn. -- Third-, fourth- and fifth-graders at the Wooster School in Danbury visited The Aldrich Museum in Ridgefield earlier this month to participate in the ArtWrite Program. Brewster Celebrates Homecoming With Football Victory BREWSTER, N.Y. -- The Brewster High School varsity football team celebrated homecoming with a 27-22 victory over Walter Panas High School on Friday.The Brewster Bears, 4-1 before the game, scored the first touchdown only three minutes into the first quarter, kicking the extra point, and ended the first quarter with a score of 7-0. Area Towns Rank Among New York's Safest More than 30 towns in Westchester, Putnam and Rockland counties have placed in the 2015 Safest Places in New York list compiled by Value Penguin. Value Penguin analyzed the most recent FBI Crime Report to find out which cities and towns in New York state are the safest. The safest places are all towns and villages rather than the most populous cities. Analysts looked at the amount of violent and property-related crimes per 100,000 people to determine the rankings. Mahopac Fire Commissioners' Statement Acknowledges Investigation MAHOPAC, N.Y. -- The Mahopac Volunteer Fire Department Board of Fire Commissioners has issued a statement in response to an investigation into department finances. The commissioners acknowledge the investigation and say they became aware of financial discrepancies over the summer, according to lohud.com.
