Pelham School Board Discusses Hiring In Executive Session
PELHAM, N.Y. -- The Board of Education of the Pelham Public Schools met at 9:30 a.m. Monday in the Superintendent's Conference Room at 18 Franklin Place. The board entered into an executive session to discuss matters leading to the employment of a particular person or corporation.

Four Briarcliff Basketball Players Earn All-State Honors
BRIARCLIFF, N.Y. -- Three members of the boys' basketball team, and one member of the girls' team at Briarcliff High School earned recognition as All-State players for the season. Jo Jo Cobbs, Sean Crowley and Jack Reish, each part of the 2016 Section I Class B championship team, earned the distinction. Girls' team member Maddie Plank also earned the honor for the 2015-16 season.

'Nature Rangers' Hold Lewisboro Scavenger Hunt
LEWISBORO, N.Y. -- The "Nature Rangers" Scavenger Hunt will take place on Friday, May 20 from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. at Leon Levy Preserve.Join for another "Kids in the Woods" event opening young senses and minds to their natural surroundings. Woodside School Celebrates Arbor Day
PEEKSKILL, N.Y. -- Woodside Elementary School students celebrated Arbor Day by planting a floribunda crabapple tree on the side of the Peekskill school's parking lot. At the ceremony, students read facts about trees and Arbor Day, as well as lines from Dr. Seuss' "The Lorax." The tree was dedicated to the building's multiple retirees.

Pelham Schools Chief Introduces Mind Habits At Prospect Hill Town Meeting
PELHAM, N.Y. -- Richard Limato, Pelham superintendent of schools, introduced Habit of Mind Listening with Understanding and Empathy at the May town meeting at Prospect Hill Elementary School. Students watched an animated feature, performed an original play, had a thoughtful discussion and paused to think before raising their hands without prompting.

Putnam Humane Society Seeks Help In Finding Missing Diabetic Cat
CARMEL, N.Y. -- The Putnam Humane Society is asking people in the Seminary Hill Road area of Carmel to be on the lookout for a missing cat.The cat, Latte Piconet, broke the screen out of a window and got out. Mount Vernon Residents Face Rat Infestation
MOUNT VERNON, N.Y. -- Mount Vernon residents say they are living with a rat infestation spanning a few blocks centered at 21 N. Bond St. where open bags of garbage serve as a food source, according to News 12 The rats were spotted at Firehouse Station Four on Oak Street across from Hamilton Elementary. City officials say say they have the Department of Public Works pairing with extermination crews to get rid of the rats, according to News 12. Funeral Held For Grandmother Hit, Killed By Car In Montebello
SUFFERN, N.Y. -- A funeral for Faith Leigh, 83, was held at Scarr Funeral Home in Suffern on Saturday, according to News 12. The grandmother was struck and killed by a car on Tuesday while crossing Route 202 in Montebello to get to her mailbox. Eastchester School Budget, Trustee Seats Face Voters Tuesday
EASTCHESTER, N.Y. -- The Eastchester school district's annual budget vote and trustee election will take place Tuesday from 6 a.m.-9 p.m. at the Eastchester Middle School Gym or the 235 Garth Road Community Center. Every qualified voter in a household is entitled to vote in the school district annual election.
