Newburgh-Beacon Bridge Walkway Closed For Maintenance POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. -- The pedestrian walkway on the Newburgh-Beacon Bridge will be closed Tuesday and Wednesday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. for maintenance. The work is weather dependent and the bridge remains open to automobile traffic.

Clarkstown North HS Teacher Jordan Turner Receives State Award CLARKSTOWN, N.Y. -- Clarkstown North High School's Jordan Turner was given the New York State History Day Teacher of the Year Award at the annual state-level National History Day competition held in Cooperstown on April 18.  In order to win this honor, Turner was first nominated by the students, parents and teachers of the community.  Then, the nomination, along with essays and letters of recommendation detailing Turner's extraordinary ability, were reviewed by the New York State History Day organization.

Woman Charged With Attempting To Cash Forged Check At Route 9 Bank WAPPINGER, N.Y. -- Shannon B. Hibbert, 26, of Brooklyn, was arrested by New York State Police for criminal possession of a forged instrument and attempted grand larceny on May 9. That day, troopers were called to Chase Bank at 1460 State Route 9 in Wappinger, responding to reports of a female attempting to cash a fraudulent check. The counterfeit check was reported by a bank employee and was in the amount of $2020, police said. Hibbert was arraigned at Wappingers Falls Court and placed in Dutchess County Jail with $1000 bail. She appeared before Wappinger Court on May 11, police said.

Suffern Street Fair Success Spurs Drive To Have Another SUFFERN, N.Y. -- After serving somewhere between 15,000 and 20,000 people at the last Suffern Street Fair, the town is holding it again. Organizers have sold out at 175 vendors and are opening up more streets for more vendors. The date will be Sept. 18, and the vendor fee is $150. For Chamber of Commerce members or prospective members, there will be a discount.
