Peekskill High School Performs 'Hairspray' PEEKSKILL, N.Y. -- The cast and crew of the Peekskill High School Drama Company recently put on four performances of "Hairspray" at the Peekskill High School Theater. The show, directed by PHS Theater Teacher Terry Sandler, was double cast for the lead roll of Tracy Turnblad, with freshman Kennedy Bordas and junior Arianna Hurtado each giving the character their own unique flair.

Rivertowns' Jewish Community Celebrates Inauguration Of Torah Scroll DOBBS FERRY, N.Y. -- The Jewish community of Dobbs Ferry will celebrate the inauguration of a Torah scroll -- Judaism's most sacred object -- with a unique ceremony Sunday at 11 a.m. Chabad of the Rivertowns. An expert ritual scribe will ink the first letters of the scroll, as was done 3,300 years ago for the first time by Moses. At the ceremony, community members will have the chance to dedicate a letter or even a portion of the Torah scroll. Peekskill's Brittney Pauta Accepted To NY Medical College STAR Program PEEKSKILL, N.Y. -- Peekskill High School's Advanced Science Research (ASR) student Brittney Pauta was accepted to the New York Medical College STAR Program, which matches a student to conduct authentic research with a medical scientist or professor at New York Medical College. Pauta is the first science research student to be accepted to this program. She will work this summer with Dr. Kobets to research epigenetics. When Pauta returns in the fall, she will have real data to write her research paper, and compete in fairs.

Washington Irving Intermediate School Wins Falcon Naming Contest TARRYTOWN, N.Y. -- Irvwing, a bird’s-eye play on the name Irving, has officially been chosen as the name for a falcon chick born on April 10 to a pair of peregrine falcons that live in a man-made nest box on the existing Tappan Zee Bridge. The name was proposed by fifth-graders in Laura Brown’s class at Washington Irving Intermediate School.
