BRONXVILLE, N.Y. -- Concordia College senior Rafael Ferreira (Sao Paulo, Brazil) was named the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Player of the Year as a total of five individuals were named to the All-CACC Teams. Ferreira is currently 9-1 overall in singles matches as he is the 31st-ranked singles player in NCAA Division II. Additionally, he is second in the East Region in singles while his 8-3 record in doubles has him ranked second in the East Region alongside freshman Alessandro Evangelisti (Latina, Italy) for the 15th-ranked Clippers. EASTCHESTER, N.Y. -- Three Eastchester Middle School students and teacher Mary Leptak attended the American Association of Teachers of Spanish and Portuguese (AATSP) awards event on April 17. Middle School students Alexa Cantreva and Sophia Sabelja's website on Guatemala was selected as the winner of the Metropolitan New York Chapter's competition in the digital category. Hartsdale Avenue Park Getting Improvements
GREENBURGH, N.Y. -- This week the small pocket park next to the former Hartsdale train station building will be updated with a series of new plantings. The existing benches that are placed near the World War I stone monument are going to be removed and replaced with smaller benches so that the monument will be better showcased. The existing benches will be relocated in close vicinity to the park so that more residents and visitors can enjoy the space than in the past. TUCKAHOE, N.Y. --The Tuckahoe Board of Education has appointed Austin Goldberg as director of Health, Physical Education and Athletics effective July 1. Goldberg, who was appointed at the board's regular meeting on April 19, will be replacing Interim Athletic Director Al Visconti in an expanded leadership role that includes the oversight of Tuckahoe’s kindergarten through 12th grade health and physical education programs. Lacey, Lenny Showcased To Find Home Hi Tor Animal Care Shelter
ROCKLAND COUNTY, N.Y. -- Lacey and Lenny, a 5-year-old female and male respectively, are both front declawed and available for adoption at the Hi Tor Animal Care Shelter in Pomona. Lacey and Lenny are a bonded brother and sister pair who are low energy and affectionate. Both could live in a home with other cats, but at this time they are unsure of dogs though they would do best in a home with children 10 years and older.

POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. -- Barbara J. Cruger, age 87, of Poughkeepsie, died Friday, April 22, at Vassar Brothers Medical Center in Poughkeepsie. Cruger was born Feb. 15, 1929, in Chattanooga, Tenn. She was the daughter of the late Vern and Gladys (Seaver) Baker. She married Thomas J. Cruger on June 3, 1950, at St. Stanislaus Church in Pleasant Valley. Her husband predeceased her on Nov. 5, 2011. She was a member of Holy Trinity Church in Poughkeepsie and the Red Oaks Mills Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary. Bronxville Students Walk To School To Celebrate Earth Day
BRONXVILLE, N.Y. --Bronxville Elementary School students and their families left the car keys at home and instead walked to school as part of the annual spring tradition, Walk to School for Earth Day, which took place last week. Valhalla Track Team Excels At Relays
MOUNT PLEASANT, N.Y. -- Valhalla High School's track and field team had a great weekend at the 2016 New York Relays as many students earned personal best records. On April 15 and 16, the athletes competed at the Icahn Stadium on Randall's Island and performed very well against several strong teams. On the boys side, sophomore Ethan Bartlett finished third in the High Jump with a personal best effort of six feet.
