'Breakfast With The Easter Bunny' In Rockland Benefits Visually Impaired SPRING VALLEY, N.Y. -- The Association for the Visually Impaired (AVI) will present its first “Breakfast with the Easter Bunny” on Saturday, March 19, at Red Lobster, 198 W. Route 59, in Nanuet. A hot buffet breakfast will be served from 8 a.m. to noon. For the added comfort of our guests, there will be two seatings: 8 to 10 a.m. and 10 a.m. to noon. Housing Authority In Bridgeport Gets $3.8M From HUD FAIRFIELD COUNTY, Conn. -- The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development announced $23.4 million in aid to housing authorities across Connecticut, said U.S. Rep. Jim Himes (CT-4). Darien Arts Center Announces Smartphone Photo Contest Fundraiser DARIEN, Conn. -- The Darien Arts Center announced its first ever smartphone photography contest fundraiser, PicDarien, is open to all ages. “We know that there are a lot of talented people out there, including kids of all ages, who are taking fabulous photos with their phones,” said Amy Allen, executive director of the Darien Arts Center. State's Proposed Fishing Changes Now Available For Public Review ORANGETOWN, N.Y. -- The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) has identified potential changes to the fishing regulations and is seeking additional angler feedback. Changes being considered to the current freshwater fishing regulations are now available at the DEC website., and if approved, these regulation changes would take effect on April 1, 2017. Ridgefield Independent Film Festival Makes Official Selections RIDGEFIELD, Conn. -- Twenty-four community screeners have completed the daunting task of selecting films for the first Ridgefield Independent Film Festival, which will be held May 20-22 at various venues in Ridgefield. Close to 200 films from 34 countries were submitted to RIFF for consideration during the submission period, which was June 15, 2015 to Jan. 1, 2016. Nichols Fire Department In Trumbull Conducts Weekly Drills TRUMBULL, Conn. -- The Nichols Fire Department in Trumbull conducted a weekly drill recently using the self contained breathing apparatus. Skill topics that were covered included a SCBA donning timed team competition. An SCBA pile up drill was finished off with a game of dodgeball in full gear and SCBA. The young guys defeated the old guys in a multiple game set. There was a great turnout with more than 20 members.

Susan Ludwig Of Brookfield Honored As Hometown Hero BROOKFIELD, Conn. -- Susan Ludwig of Brookfield has been named a United Way of Western Connecticut Hometown Hero Award honoree. Ludwig has spent countless hours volunteering at Brookfield’s food pantry over the years. She became the pantry manager, a volunteer position, in 2010.
