NCC Archaeology Club Exhibits Artifacts At Norwalk Library NORWALK, Conn. -- The Norwalk Public Library invites residents to an exhibit mounted by the Archaeology Club of Norwalk Community College during August. The display in the library's lobby features artifacts dug up in the Norwalk area, both from historical and Native American sites, and photographs. In addition to offering a program of weekend digs at local sites, the NCC Archaeology Club meets monthly for evening lectures by professional archaeologists.  Its activities are open to the public, even those who are not NCC students. Barbara Schmitt, 82, Formerly Of Rye RYE, N.Y. -- A memorial service will be held on Saturday, Aug. 13, for Barbara H. Schmitt, 82, a longtime resident of Rye and former teacher at Mamaroneck High School, Schmitte, 82, who most recently lived in Wilton, Conn., died at Norwalk Hospital on June 27.  She was born in Queens to Howard Hammarth and Madeline (McGroarty) Hammarth. She entered the Daughters of Wisdom, a Catholic religious order that ministers in education and health care. She left the order in the late 1960s and married Ted Schmitt, a former Catholic priest. Ridgefield Police Cracking Down On Distracted Driving RIDGEFIELD, Conn. -- During the month of August the Ridgefield Police Department is participating in the “U DRIVE. U TEXT. U PAY.” initiative to crackdown on motorists who choose to text, talk or otherwise distract themselves from driving by using a phone. The Ridgefield Police Department will have extra patrols on certain days specifically looking for cell phone and texting violations.
