Giants Trade Gridiron For Diamond At Charity Softball Game In Dutchess
WAPPINGERS FALLS, N.Y. -- Dutchess County residents and New York Giants fans welcomed several current and former New York Giants players, including Odell Beckham Jr., to Dutchess County last night as part of Giants punter Brad Wing's Celebrity Softball Game at Dutchess Stadium. Plaxico Burress, Ahmad Bradshaw, 2016 NFL first-round draft pick Eli Apple, Landon Collins, and more, participated in the charity event which helped raise funds for the Ryan McElroy Children's Cancer Foundation.

HYDE PARK, N.Y. -- Rod MacDonald and Mark Dann will be performing at the Hyde Park Library Annex on Saturday, June 25 at 7:30 p.m. MacDonald has been performing folk music for decades after getting his start in the midst of the 1980s folk revival in New York City. Our Lady Of Lourdes Alumnus Blair Wegescheide Heads To Olympic Trials
POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. -- Our Lady Of Lourdes alumnus Blair Wegescheide, recently graduated from the University of Pittsburgh, and will attend the graduate school in the fall, but in between will be competing in Olympic trials in the backstroke. A standout athlete at Lourdes from 2008 through 2011, Blair set school records in the 100 back and was a member of the 200 free and 200 medley relays that also set school records. She was the first freshman to qualify for and compete at the New York State Championships, and as a senior, finished first in the 100 back and second in the 100 free at the div…

Weinberg Nature Center High School Volunteers Finish Work Period
SCARSDALE, N.Y. -- Weinberg Nature Center had four Scarsdale High School Senior Options students working from May 2 until June 14. Their obligation was to volunteer 30 hours per week performing various duties. Besides spreading wood chips, the students also used logs and branches to line the trails. They also got first hand knowledge on what it takes to operate a nature center and the work involved providing the care for animals. Olivia McKay and Rohan Hawkins are headed for universities in Southern California. Jake Debono and Max Bryant are headed to universities in upstate New York.

Comptroller Finds East Ramapo Schools Under Financial Stress
RAMAPO, N.Y. -- The state Comptroller's Office has released a report critical of East Ramapo school officials' efforts in addressing issues in previous audits, saying the district still faces fiscal stress, according to lohud.com. Between August 2011 and July 2013, 16 recommendations were made for the district, and state Comptroller Thomas DiNapoli says officials wholly implemented only two and somewhat implemented eight, according to lohud.com. SPRING VALLEY, N.Y. -- Spring Valley Deputy Village Clerk Herby Jean-Charles is positioned in the midst of a standoff between Mayor Demeza Delhomme and the Board of Trustees. It hit a fever pitch Tuesday when he was allegedly fired over the scheduling of a special board meeting, according to lohud.com. Jean-Charles said was doing paperwork for the special board meeting on June 21, a meeting that Delhomme was unaware of. Port Chester Trustees Vote Not To Reinstate Firefighters
PORT CHESTER, N.Y. -- The Port Chester Board of Trustees voted down a reinstatement of paid firefighters, confirming a shift to an all-volunteer fire department, according to lohud.com. The fire department had included volunteers but was largely composed of paid firefighters at all four firehouses. New Group Launches Effort To Save Larchmont Playhouse Movie Theater
LARCHMONT, N.Y. -- There is a local effort to save the Larchmont Playhouse movie theater that will be accepting pledges up until June 30. The historic theater is still for sale and a recent Kickstarter campaign was launched, but subsequently cancelled, by the Pelham Picture House, as reported by The Daily Voice. Now, a new Larchmont-based group is forming to determine just how much money could be raised to purchase the theater. BEACON, N.Y. -- Local constellation artist Melissa McGill will be leading tours to Bannerman Island under the night sky throughout this summer in Beacon.Aboard The Estuary Steward, attendees will get a walking tour of the island and a constellation viewing from the water as stars shift from twilight to the dark of night.
